Steve mcclaren did alright after coming out of Fergie's shadow, although my personal highlight of his was his foray into tv punditry😂

TC took charge of Wolves for 13 games, (W=0, D=4, L=9) after Mick was sacked back in 2012. He must have realised after that stint, that he was better suited to the No.2 role.

So a League Cup with Middlesbrough and an Eredivisie with Twente aren’t success?

Brian Kidd was another who tried it but didn't work out and he had probably the best ever teacher in Fergie.

Huge difference between boss and No.2 but one as important as the other.

Clough and Taylor were a match made in heaven.

Chris Hughton was a coach at Spurs for a very long time before going on his own.

That's a short list compared to England, Wolfsburg, QPR, Twente the second time, Derby and Newcastle United

The point was about whether there was any success. Failure isn’t restricted to assistants stepping up to manager.

Seems the bullish ones succeed , their drive and desire to be number one seems to make them more ruthless .
