  • Dickie Davies RIP

Sports broadcaster, World of Sport from 1968 - 1985.

I bet many of us remember that.

    He was 94

A bit of nostalgia for us old enough to remember.

That little printer that looked like a butterfly

Took an age to put the score up

His whacky suits and white quiff

Bit harsh to show the end of Chic Brodie's career in the credits (he was the goalie felled by the dog). I bet he always had Grandstand on after that (Brodie, not the dog).

Kinell, just as I'd finally come to terms with Burt Bacharach's passing, Dickie Davies has gone and clocked out.

94, that's a good innings, if you'll excuse the cricketing parlance!

I used to love watching World of Sport. He'd always introduce some sport that few of us had any knowledge of - I remember watching American football on his programme in the early 70s, way before Channel 4 got hold of it.

                RIP
