Without that information then little will happen sadly. I would urge fellow MB members to do the same - write to your MP, don't just whinge on a football forum.
Re: taking Ukrainian refugees into the UK - Boris Johnson indicated on the BBC news tonight that the UK will give first priority to Ukrainian citizens who have relatives in the UK which seems reasonable as this could represent quite a number of refugees (I think I read somewhere that there are 30,000 Ukrainians living in the UK?). He made no mention of others but I guess we need to see how many would come under the "relatives in the UK" connection category.
I have already emailed my MP and received an acknowledgement from him. He always responds in full within a week or so.
I have also written to Andrei Kelin (Russian ambassador in London) to suggest that he resigns his position in protest at the actions of his deranged president otherwise he too will have the blood of innocent Ukrainians on his hands. This will have no effect whatsoever of course (I am not that naive) but I feel I have done something! I suspect it may only be a matter of time before he is expelled anyway. BTW both his private address and the embassy address are available on the Internet.

And still this government pushes ahead with the Borders Bill which will criminalise any refugee entering the UK without a visa, including Ukrainians. This Tweet from the Home Office is only 14 hours old. What is this government doing? https://twitter.com/ukhomeoffice/sta...535973377?s=21

I'm sure that will be changed as usual you are in the hands of civil servants who can be a bit slow getting back to the office unless its for a party

I see No 10 has slapped down Liz Truss today. It is recommending people do not rock up for mercenary duties in Ukraine. Ex Attorney General Dominic Grieve has confirmed it would be illegal anyway.
These are difficult times and highly charged, I would feel much better if No.10 sidelined Truss until the conflict is over, and leave commentary to grown ups. We cannot countenance slipshod talk.

Re: The War starts Putin announces "Military Operation" in Ukraine. Explosions heard in Kyiv
Tell you what Putin has managed one job that I thought wasn’t achievable, he’s managed to unify the whole of Europe like never seen before….I bet the idiot never saw that one coming. What with the rest of the world bar the usual untrustworthy suspects also on board, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a world leader make such a dick of oneself on such a grand stage. No doubt we will have to concede something to him now so he doesn’t look like such a fool before he crawls back under his iron stone…..

It's difficult to imagine what Putin's realistic end game is. Yes, he could have taken the more pro-Russian southern and eastern parts of the country and possibly have occupied them long term - but I think that he will have enormous problems occupying the pro-western part of the country, Kyiv in particular.

I think social media will make a huge difference. people on the spot telling things how they are without rose tinted glasses, or a political leaning.

I agree with you. The only problem is, he's a dick with a sh*t load of nuclear warheads and has made veiled threats. I'm pretty nervous about him being humiliated on the world stage.

Do you reckon the Brexiters who believed the prospect of an EU army was a terrible idea?
They were fed a giant crock of shit!

yes, I think the major players are definitely worried about completely backing him into a corner, knowing about his nuclear arsenal. they will need to offer him a way out of this that doesn't lose too much face.
its a pity that is the case, but it is.

What EU army ? There is no EU army. Even the countries who were half interested in the concept have had no real traction in getting one sorted. The EU constituents have also massively underfunded their own armed forces over the last couple of decades.
Your insistence on blaming this russian invasion on brexit is quite frankly demented

Yes, I agree.
Maybe he's banking on this? Maybe he'll negotiate more this way? I don't know. It's pretty f*cked up.

apparently it has been confirmed that more than 30 russian tanks have been destroyed so far, but I think I read that the Russians have something like 1200 or so in the region.

There is so much information flying around at the moment. I have seen figures far higher than 30.
However even if we take that as right, 30 tanks over 5 days means 180 in a month!
At that rate they will have no tanks left in the region.
Unfortunately they stiil have about 7,000 more to bring in, although I am not sure how many of those are front line battle tanks

Of course there was no EU Army planned. That’s my point. We were lied to in order to split the EU. Misinformation spread by Russian propaganda. Putin has been planning this for years. Whilst we’ve been arguing amongst ourselves in Europe, he saw it as a window of opportunity.

I can't see that making a difference personally. Germany especially, and the eu as a whole have been responsible for p*ssing putin off politically while sending him billions a month for gas. I don't understand how a stronger eu would have helped . However much you hate Britain and the US, they are the ones who have dragged and cajoled European countries into action.
There is one thing that has been playing on my mind the last couple of days regarding brexit mind. When I think back to the scum like farage and some French mp's who were demanding navies got involved with fishing disputes. We're so lucky to live in a part of the world where disputes are dealt with politically. To think that filth on both sides were almost falling over themselves to turn it into a military confrontation is beyond reproach.

Re: The War starts Putin announces "Military Operation" in Ukraine. Explosions heard in Kyiv
Is this the first time that a conflict 'near' to home has been played out in soundbites, internet and social media ? I'd encourage folk to read some good journalism [even the Guardian] on the big picture here. It's not just about Ukraine.

Putin will win this war if it lasts 72 hours more. The real question is whether he will be undermined from Russia in that time, and then what. Because we are all watching a bellend on a spiral of self destruct. Funny in Caroline st on a Saturday, but Less so when the bellend in question has a finger on the nuclear button.
Russia alone can fix this. But they wont.
So in the next week we need a targeted strike to take out a lunatic. And hope the subs realise the game is up

General Sir Richard Barrons on Newsnight reckons that if in the next couple of days, Russia starts using its heavy weapons against civilians and thus causing casualties in the hundreds or even thousands, by Thursday or Friday public opinion may force the west to think of a No Fly zone or even an attempt to destroy Russia's heavy weapons!!

They need planes. If we can provide ammunition a few planes, wouldn't go amiss. They've got the pilots.

Can't remember where I heard it today but apparently the EU are going to provide them witn Russian planes which the Ukraine pilots are trained to fly.
The prblem I can see with planes is that if the Russians make really serious efforts, Ukraine could end up with no airfields to fly tehm from

Re: The War starts Putin announces "Military Operation" in Ukraine. Explosions heard in Kyiv
With this huge 40 mile convoy of tanks, artillery and armoured trucks approaching Kiev from the north I fear that this is it. Already civilian targets are being destroyed in the second city Kharkiv, so it's becoming no holds barred now. I think Putin has two options depending on his degree of impatience to take over Ukraine - if in a hurry, use every weapon he has to pulverise Kiev so that the president Zelensky has no option but to surrender to prevent a massacre, or alternatively if he is not in a rush, lay siege to the city and starve the population into submission. There are no words to describe Putin other than evil personified.
