Not as a player.
No room for sentiment, as JR said the budget is tighter this season.
I'd be happy to see him in a coaching role but that would obviously mean him agreeing to a reduced wage, if he takes that great, if not then it's time to move on. He's barely played since he did his knee at Wolves
As I said I think people are taking this story as fact when it should be obvious that as part of sols recovery mm gave him that minute on the pitch to give the guy some thanks and respect for the way he's dealing with his illness and to give the guy some hope
He's never going to play football again , never mind for cardiff city
I am sure the club are considering offering him a coaching role if he regains health but I am sure he won't be taking the youngsters for training on a Tuesday morning then spending an afternoon getting treatment off the specialist , the club giving him 3 days to recover then he's back in for Friday doing gym work with the under 19s
A part time role if he gets better ? Possibly
100% with you on that.
Love Sol, this is a closed chapter as far as playing for the City goes.
We all hope that once he is out of the woods with his cancer, of which I hope that the club is part of that.
He still has a future in the game clearly and a lot to offer, it would be a dream if Mick and Terry does what they to do here and hand over the reigns to Sol once that jobs done At the end of his tenure (not by sacking).
So he states he wants 1 more year playing professional football so our answer is to sign here and sit on the bench.. not playing football? His legs are gone and in my opinion not able to play a regular season for a promotion chasing team
Give him a coaching contract now and say - "Start whenever you fancy hanging up your boots - until then go and enjoy yourself"
As I said this is all clearly a smoke screen , the club and Bamba know the score
He and his wife love the area and the club , he is getting treatment here
The gesture on Saturday was to lift his spirits
He's not going to be offered a playing contract and I doubt he will be given a coaching role until he has got back to health , if he does
Cancer may leave him very very weak , never mind getting up 3 times a week to coach the youth team
People are getting daft about something that's unlikely to happen
Heart says YES.
Head says NO.
Sentiment aside, in normal circumstances many supporters would give Bamba a one year contract as a player. But there lies the rub. Bamba wants to play and that would mean remuneration as a player rather than a coach who would earn very much less. Even if his roles were combined as a player and coach that would mean paying him far more than as just simply a coach.
If the stories are true that Tan is supporting the club to the tune of £2m a month, decisions on player contracts become very difficult. The club simply can't afford to retain Bamba as a player, but as a coach hell yes as long as the idea of him playing and being paid as a player is dropped.
