I would earn 15-20k more if I was doing my job in the private sector with slightly less job security and a worse pension but my 'decent' pension kicks in at state pension age so god knows when that will be or if I will be alive to see it. I am in this job because of a drive to try and make things better for vulnerable kids and their families but unfortunately that fuzzy feeling doesn't pay for anything so the goodwill only goes so far. If you want the kind of pay stagnation we saw during the 2010s to continue then you don't want public services. That's fine, but just say that.

People forgot what a Labour government was like, they've had a quick reminder, they will drag the UK down to Wales standards and leave a mess without being in government during Brexit and Covid.

I hate to burst your bubble but I got a larger pay rise (in % and £) last year under the conservatives. Also Local Government pay increases weren't funded centrally unlike those set by pay review bodies so instead had to be absorbed into existing budgets i.e. the money isnt being pinched from elsewhere, we just see a continuation of the budgetary pressure that councils have failed for a decade or more. Also also our pay offer was made to the unions under the previous conservative government. Turns out you don't really know anything, which will surprise absolutely nobody.Quote:

The whole site is completely overrun by bots - the best bit about twitter used to be the replies- but these days 90%+ of them are bots posting completely unrelated content, so you don't et any discussion on whats been originally posted. The 10% that aren't bots are onlyfans girls promoting their pornography, and that is just as tiresome.
It also just doesn't work as well as it used to - videos seldom play that well, sometimes the sound of on video continues playing over the next video you've watched etc.
None of the alternatives are anywhere as good as Twitter used to be unfortunately - Bluesky is probably the closest, but has some way to go before it feels as vibrant and important.
I tihnk at the current rate, within 5 years Twitter will not be major player any more - it can happen to online based companies very quickly - look at MySpace, that was the leading social media site a while back, not sure it even exists now.
Or facebook even, still massive but now only used by boomers pretty much.
I'm sure it had some small influence for Trump in the recent US election (given the amount of pro-trump / anti Kamala content that was getting shoved in my direction on a daily basis, and I couldn't even vore in it) - but I can't see that being the case in future elections as Twitter loses its relevance.
