The figure you're quoting as being Southampton's urban area also includes Portsmouth. The total urban population of Southampton in 2001 was 304,000 so either it's trebled in 20 years or they've included Portsmouth since 2011, which seems more likely?
This map:
https://www.citypopulation.de/en/uk/cities/englandua/ shows the urban area, it includes Portsmouth
No the Pompey Southampton urban area is 1.6 million .......South Hampshire
Of that 1.6 million , about 900k ....a lot bigger than Cardiffs urban area ........make up Southamptons urban area
The city of Southampton, like Newcastle, Nottingham isn't that big ...but it's urban area is bigger than Cardiff ......same as Newcastle urban area and Nottingham urban area

Even if it was bigger than Cardiff (urban area ) which I’d argue it isn’t the area you are talking about has a significantly higher amount of people aged 60-90 compared to the Cardiff Urban Area,so it could be argued that would impact support.

Deeney was one of their worst players at the CCS, past it.
