It's the red warning that ends at 11am, not the consequences of it.

Can anyone remember any previous City matches that have been postponed the day before due to what the weather might be like?
Maybe it has happened before, but I can’t recall such a scenario.

Off the top of my head games at Leicester and Brentford?
Brentford was early 2000s. Leicester was dave jones era around Xmas time? Less sure on Leicester!!
Both away though i think. Can't remember a home game being off.
Even then the above were probably because of frozen pitches?

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
One positive is that unless both Hull and QPR win we won't go back to bottom 3.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
I don't think the Met Office used to give out these red weather warnings.
Having said that I can't remember a match being postponed because of wind.
Guess we've global warming to thank.

Leicester at home in 2009 was called off on the morning of the match (I looked it up). Didn't we also have a game called off at the CCS (v Fulham?) as there was damage to the roof?

No.

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
My son and I decided it was too risky at 1:00 today and opted to give it a miss.
When theclub heard this, they said, "well if you're not coming, we may as well not play"
So sorry lads, it's our fault.

I thought it was Derby in 2009? and the game at the CCS was nearly called off but wasn't and that was the game that we returned finally to blue. We won 1 -0 Sean Morrison scored.

2009 was a bad calendar year for home postponements!

For the Leicester game I was 160 miles into my journey when I heard of the postponement (somewhere around Monmouth).
Not happy.
An early call on this one is the right thing to do.

At least wait until tomorrow morning.
Just absurd.

It was the first game after we changed back to blue. I took the dog for a walk in Jubilee Park early on the morning of the game and when I saw what had happened to the Canton Stand, I was convinced the match would be called off. As it was, I can’t remember the conditions affecting the game too much, it was an awful watch though - this was during Russell Slade’s time in charge and Fulham had Ross McCormack and ten mediocre others in those days.

it's pretty windy to be fair, wouldn't be much of a spectacle in this

I disagree. Would be far more entertaining!
Goal kick at one end going over the bar at the other end for a goal kick.
At the other end goal kick blowing back out for a corner. Would be great fun.

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
So what's it like now? My phone is telling me that Barry is under a severe wind warning. It sounds to me like the club have done something sensible for a change. Imagine going to the game and then having to evacuate from the stadium due to wind damage. I wouldn't fancy that.

It's still.awful. They were right to call it off when they did.

Where are you? I'm in Riverside and it's just a miserable winter's day, absolutely not calling events off weather, it's not even that windy anymore. Not digging the club out for playing it safe though, hindsight's a wonderful thing

I've just driven from Llandaff North to Roath. True it's not as windy as it was, but still strong gusts and squally showers. Its not just about what the weather is like between 3 and 5pm though.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
my gutters have blown off and ive lost 3 greenhouse windows.
not sure I could have taken a home defeat on top of that, so the club were right to call it off

I've seen the photo of the car that a tree fell onto on Cathedral Rd last night yes, I'm not saying there haven't been strong winds, I'm just saying it's just a miserable winter's day by this point

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD. MATCH POSTPONED
It was the right call to postpone.
I don't think the decision was made due to it being too windy, as the forecast had it to start settling down from mid-afternoon.
I believe the decision was made due to variables, i.e, would the stadium's structure be compromised, trees/power cables being unsafe, etc.
Good shout.

That tree didn't fall on a car.
The driver misjudged the weight of his Christmas tree he was taking home.
