Dick Advocaat
My mother-in-laws two favourite things
Re: Dick Advocaat - Turns down Cardiff job
Wasn't he sacked from Rangers for having a drug problem?

no up and coming championship manager would sign up for that
Re: Dick Advocaat - Turns down Cardiff job
No denial of the story from the club yet as far as I'm aware - do we take it that if there's not one by tonight, then it's true?
Ordinarilly, a club would be best advised to ignore such a ridiculous sounding story, but the problem is that, at Vincent Tan's Cardiff City, it sounds nowhere near as absurd as it would if, say, Bristol City were offering Advocaat the manager's job.

It would be more than a little odd for a 77 year-old Dutchman to confirm the story if it wasn’t true. It seems so random.

I presume they’ve exhausted the idea of bringing someone decent in to keep us up and stay next season then?
So bring someone in who’s 77, semi retired and chilling in the Caribbean to manage a relegation fight.
Bobby Gould is also available and his wife says he can come
Re: Dick Advocaat - Turns down Cardiff job
What’s Rinus Michels up to? Big Ron?
Re: Dick Advocaat - Turns down Cardiff job
If it's true which I doubt, Tan deserves to lose all his money.

77, is a tad to old especially considering there’s youngsters like Allardyce available, he’s probably early 70’s
What could possibly go wrong ?
Re: Dick Advocaat - Turns down Cardiff job
Bacuna plays for him in the Curacao side - maybe it was all a big plan to bring him back to Cardiff!

Maybe it was Bacuna who stopped this deal happening after telling him what a circus it is here! Who would’ve known the £3m wasn’t a total waste

Nothing really to spin lol. Could just be an agent knowing the club may be looking for a manager and looking to make him an option. Seems to be dismissed pretty quickly.

How dare they? Bastards, the lot of them…
Odd

He's 77. He doesn't want a full time job, he's said that repeatedly. He got annoyed when he was asked about it. The club clearly sounded him out. There's nothing to dismiss, it happened.

By who at the club?

He's 77, so might be able to win our YPOTY
Maybe he wants the World not to forget him, a final shout for attention?
I can't see it myself but with Tan we can never be sure.

Why on earth would the club bother to comment publicly and put something on the web site?!
They behaving ridiculously at times but that is just a stupid thing to say.

The problem is they behave so ludicrously at times that, without a denial, people will believe that they approached a seventy seven year old who, it seems, has no desire to return to club management- they wouldn’t believe a story like this if it was about, say, twenty teams in this division, but they would if it was Cardiff.
I think there’s a better than even chance that, whatever division we’re in, we’ll be looking for a new manager again this summer. If it’s believed that we approached a seventy seven year old who was publicly critical of the club, what effect will that have on the type of candidate we attract in a few months time? If there is another side to this story which paints City in a better light, then they need to get it into the public domain somehow.

Bacuna would have done the opposite. given his contract length. Dickie boy would have been signed up until he was 80 knowing our lot.

The point (which was clearly lost on one particular individual) is that this story could easily be destabilising for the manager and his squad at a critical time if it is true that the hierarchy were recently seeking to replace Riza with Advocaat.
A denial and a vote of confidence in the current manager might help under the circumstances. However, the problem is the story is so bizarre it must surely have a strong element of truth to it. After all, why would a journalist ask a 77 year-old Dutchman about an approach from Cardiff City in the first place, and why would he confirm that had happened if it hadn’t?

He didn't bring it up for Christ's sake. That meant the journalist had been told by someone else, and the Advocaat got seriously annoyed at the story. Advocaat has won league titles at 3 clubs and the UEFA Cup, he doesn't need Cardiff City to stay relevant.
