The problem is they behave so ludicrously at times that, without a denial, people will believe that they approached a seventy seven year old who, it seems, has no desire to return to club management- they wouldn’t believe a story like this if it was about, say, twenty teams in this division, but they would if it was Cardiff.
I think there’s a better than even chance that, whatever division we’re in, we’ll be looking for a new manager again this summer. If it’s believed that we approached a seventy seven year old who was publicly critical of the club, what effect will that have on the type of candidate we attract in a few months time? If there is another side to this story which paints City in a better light, then they need to get it into the public domain somehow.
The point (which was clearly lost on one particular individual) is that this story could easily be destabilising for the manager and his squad at a critical time if it is true that the hierarchy were recently seeking to replace Riza with Advocaat.
A denial and a vote of confidence in the current manager might help under the circumstances. However, the problem is the story is so bizarre it must surely have a strong element of truth to it. After all, why would a journalist ask a 77 year-old Dutchman about an approach from Cardiff City in the first place, and why would he confirm that had happened if it hadnt?
