Still no place for Rubin Colwill. Bellamy's not a fan, is he?
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey last played for Wales in September 2024
World Cup qualifier: Kazakhstan v Wales
Venue: Astana Arena, Astana Date: Thursday, 4 September Kick off: 15:00 BST
Coverage: Live on BBC One, S4C, iPlayer, BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru, the BBC Sport website and app, plus live text commentary.
Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has been left out of the squad for the World Cup qualifier away to Kazakhstan on 4 September.
The 34-year-old midfielder came off the bench last week for new club Pumas UNAM, playing his first minutes of football for the Mexican side since suffering a hamstring injury in Cardiff City's 2-1 victory over Luton on 11 March.
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu is also absent after the midfielder or defender suffered a knee injury in their 1-0 Premier League win against Everton in mid-August.
Rubin Colwill misses out on a call-up despite impressing for Cardiff in their unbeaten start to the season in League One and the EFL Cup.
But Bluebirds team-mates Dylan Lawlor and Ronan Kpakio are included, with Coventry City midfielder Kai Andrews the third uncapped player in Craig Bellamy's 25-man squad.
After facing Kazakhstan in Astana, Wales host Canada in a friendly five days later.
For the first time in more than a decade, Wrexham will provide players for the national side, with the Championship side's new signings Danny Ward, Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore all included.
Wales are second in Group J following their only defeat from their four games in this qualifying campaign so far, a 4-3 loss in Belgium in June.
They are a point behind North Macedonia who won 1-0 in Kazakhstan, while Belgium are third, three points further back but with two games in hand.
The match against Canada on 9 September (19:45 BST) marks a return to the Swansea.com Stadium for Wales, who last played there in November 2020 in a goalless draw against the USA during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The last time Wales played in front of a crowd in Swansea was in March 2013 against Croatia, in a match that featured current head coach Bellamy in attack.
Wales squad
Karl Darlow (Leeds United), Adam Davies (Sheffield United), Danny Ward (Wrexham), Ben Cabango (Swansea City), Jay Dasilva (Coventry City), Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur), Ronan Kpakio (Cardiff City), Dylan Lawlor (Cardiff City), Chris Mepham (Bournemouth), Joe Rodon (Leeds United), Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest), Kai Andrews (Coventry City), David Brooks (Bournemouth), Charlie Crew (Doncaster Rovers - on loan from Leeds United), Jordan James (Stade Rennais), Josh Sheehan (Bolton Wanderers), Sorba Thomas (Stoke City), Harry Wilson (Fulham), Nathan Broadhead (Wrexham), Liam Cullen (Swansea City), Mark Harris (Oxford United), Lewis Koumas (Birmingham City - on loan from Liverpool), Daniel James (Leeds United), Brennan Johnson (Tottenham Hotspur), Kieffer Moore (Wrexham).
Nor Joel, did their dad piss him off or something? There was a case for both, especially considering who made it
To be honest I think this omission is a bit ridiculous and the journalists should ask questions because there's players in that squad that don't play (one of Bellamy's big things apparently) and aren't particularly athletic (again something that's one of his big things), especially considering how light we are in midfield.
4 playing in league one
11 in the championship
9 in the premier league
1 in France.
0 players at clubs who will be competing at the top end of the premier league/ champions league spots.
It's definitely a weak era for wales - we've usually had one or two elite level players, but there are none at the moment.
I don't think Bellamy would have any problems picking Rubin if he played in a more defensive role, but we just happen to have a lot of attacking midfielders at the moment.
nope but here's Chris Gunter's U17 squad
i notice Tankiewicz has been included
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="cy" dir="ltr">CYHOEDDIAD CARFAN <br><br>Chris Gunter has announced his Cymru MU17 squad ahead of their friendly double-header with Estonia </p>— Wales (@Cymru) <a href="https://twitter.com/Cymru/status/1960717733013938374?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 27, 2025</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Rubin can’t do anymore, he’s been outstanding this season. Just hope this disappointment doesn’t affect his form for City.
Bellamy has hardly put a foot wrong since taking over the job so can’t really question his decision even though from the outside its baffling when you look at some of the players who do get picked.
So do we need one more call up to have the option of postponing the game?
I guess there's a chance we might still want to play it if there aren't too many more.

Don't forget Ng with Singapore.
Maybe Chambers has an outside chance of an England recall after his recent performances.
:hehe:
Politicians answer from Bellamy on Rubin. Loving what he’s seeing this season, player he really likes but needs to see more consistency.
The answer might have more credibility if he wasn’t picking players who are in poor form or don’t start for their club. Kai Andrew’s has played 2 league cup games this season. Josh Sheehan is a sub for Bolton and Lewis Koumas hasn’t played a single minute this season yet.
It does seem for whatever reason that Rubin is held to a higher standard to get picked than others who have made the squad.
Bang on
Colwill is head and shoulders above most of the squad in terms of ability. And he's really stepped up this season and improved his overall game. It's scandalous to leave him out when you consider utter dross like Sparky and Cullen are regular call ups.
Oh well, at least he's rested for City. :ayatollah:
Monday’s scenario, Harry Wilson drops out injured, Rubin called up as a replacement
You heard it here first
I must admit I'd prefer it if our players weren't dragged all the way to Kazakhstan to sit in the bench
From a Fulham website:
Harry Wilson was forced off in the 64th minute of Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Bristol City in the Carabao Cup due to a foot injury, coach Marco Silva confirmed in a press conference. "Let's see in the next few hours, or days. Let's hope it's nothing serious because it was the same foot and the same area as his bad injury last season. Fingers crossed that it's nothing really serious."
Agree entirely. What sort of consistency has he seen from Sheehan Crew Koumas and Andrews this season? Even the Jacks are saying Cullen has been hopelessly out of form this season
I think Bellamy is doing a great job with Wales but not picking Colwill before any of the mentioned above makes no sense . Also with Wilson maybe carrying an injury Colwill would provide cover there too.
The way Cardiff are playing this season is much more closely aligned with how Bellamy wants Wales to play . I’m not so sure Crew and Sheehan in league 1 are playing the same way - if they even make their clubs starting line ups!
Though it benefits Cardiff I’m also a Wales fan and would be much more assured if Colwill was an option off the bench rather than some of the others mentioned
tbh at least we won't all be on tender hooks waiting to see if Rubin picks up an injury on Wales duty
You would've thought the fixtures being Kazakhstan and Canada (friendly) would be a decent time along with RC's current form to have picked him for the squad?
It would've given Bellamy opportunity to get his message over to RC or integrate him into the squad or whatever new bollocks football speak is used now?
Can only assume Bellamy either thinks he's not needed as he is satisfied with his midfield options or he just not a fan?
agree he's obviously having bit of advice on how to deal with the media here . he talked about building a team for when he eventually leaves the role and I would have thought Collwill would be a part of the future
The bit i did agree with him when talks about the gulf in class not just with the prem to the championship but also the gulf in class between the championship and League 1 . he's spot on there
