I make it twenty senior players with three keepers and Tsunoda and Willock rumoured to be leaving soon.
I suppose it depends on when a player qualifies as an under 21 - Joel Colwill turns 21 early in the new season, as does Cian Ashford.
\
Is there any more information about Tsunoda and Willock? other than some Japanese football ITK guy on twitter and the fact that Willock played with the U21s against Yeovil?

September the 1'st is cut off transfer day this summer so will be plenty of debate to be had by then :hehe:

Can't find anything about this season, but I found this about last season.
https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features...bs-are-allowed
The definition of u21 then was "any player born on or after January 1 2004", so presumably that's Jan 1 2005 now. That would mean neither of them can be counted as u21.

I'm not advocating that we sign Hanley, but we definitely need someone in that Morrison/Flint-type mould in this league.
There'll be games (at home) where we have a lot of the ball and teams sit deep, and that's fine. But there'll be games (likely away) where teams will have a big ****er up top and they'll just pummel crosses and long balls into them for 90 mins. Unless Daland sorts himself out, we haven't currently got any centre backs that can handle that type of physicality.
Re: The Transfer Rumour Thread
That just means they need to have been registered with a club in England or Wales for three years before they reach a certain age. We would have very few non home grown players in our squad.
Re: The Transfer Rumour Thread
Even Robertson who is an Aussie would be considered home grown due to his time spent at man city

Okay then, let’s assume that Ashford and Joel Colwill are over 21 for the purposes of these rules. That makes a total of 22, but then three of them are keepers, so it seems to me that we could sign three players today and not be breaking the rules.

Here are the rules for this season, from the EFL Handbook. It is as thought:
44.9 Squad Lists
44.9.1 Clubs shall be permitted to name up to a maximum number of Players in their Squad List based on the following provisions:
...
(b) in respect of League One and Two Clubs 22 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.
44.9.2 The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League matches:
...
(b) in respect of League One Clubs and League Two Clubs:
(i) any Under 21 Players; and
(ii) goalkeepers.
Definitions
...
For Season 2025/26 an Under 21 Player is someone born on or after 1 January 2005.

I think you're right.

I reckon at least ten of those in that first team squad page from the club site would be considered home grown.

Steve Borley was involved in a few exchanges last night over squad size but has since deleted all his tweets.

Did he say something about us having a full squad and having to sell before we bring anyone in?

I believe so. Suggesting more players had to go but when he was corrected on squad numbers he stopped posting and deleted the tweets/replies

Odd, and a bit of a concern.
Re: The Transfer Rumour Thread
I came to the same conclusion. Was it ignorance of the rules or an attempt to cover up cost cutting and was found out

Think he said we had to sell two
I’ve got a lot of respect for Steve Borley after what he did for the club in the late nineties, but it was so typically Tan’s Cardiff City that the first communication fans get from the club in weeks turns out to be wrong.

Well, if you wanted to believe that we were skint and Tan was pulling the plug, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that this summer - I don’t think that’s the case though.

Just shows we have ZERO basic common sense football knowledge on the board.
As someone who works in a complex technical field I have to regularly explain to non-technical executives why things take so long and why we need x,y, and z. It's challenging for me... but it must be an absolute nightmare for City managers when faced with the most fundamental lack of football knowledge from the people holding all the power at the club.

Think we have 22 senior players on our books right now . under 21's are exempt
If my calculations are right we will need lose 2 players to get 2 in
think we have 22 senior players registered now ?
Yes, goalies are exempt. We have 3or4 places to fill.
Re: The Transfer Rumour Thread
My understanding is that we have to cut salary costs to below 60% of income, to comply with League 1/2 finance rules. Can anyone confirm that? It might explain why we are getting rid of all but a few of the big earners.

Ask Steve Borley on x, he should have the answer.

I believe you’re right. I asked Keith a couple of weeks ago on here what the percentages of wages to turnover had been in recent seasons and, of course, have forgotten what he said now - think it was something like 75 per cent in 22/23 and 80 odd in 23/24.

Yes, those are the rules for league one.
our income will drop by 6-10m and we probably would have had a salary to income of higher than 60%
if we had an income of around 24m and a wage bill of say 22m previously.
then we might be looking at a new income of 16m and therefore would need the wage bill to reduce to less than 10m
