Sorry it was badly worded, of course you get to say it, you just don't get to have a say in whether he does or not.

If you bought him a drink he'd miss his mouth. You can imagine him in his 60s down the boozer still banging on about the goal he scored against Swansea.
He will be back playing semi pro football soon enough if someone close to him doesn’t pull him to one side and talk some sense into him.
There’s young lads playing for Merthyr who are more professional than he is. He’s going to piss this chance against the wall if he’s not careful.
I miss the period after the Swansea game when the world class attacking trident of Colwill, Robinson and Tanner were going to power us up the table if only Bulut picked them, now poor Ollie can't even have half a shandy after a match without everybody hating him :frown:
As far as I'm concerned, if Tanner, or any other player, wants to go out on the piss one night, that's up to them. They represent Cardiff City when they put on the shirt, when they train or play or represent the club in other ways. But, for me, their own personal time is theirs to do what they want with.
Whether that is detrimental to their game is a separate matter. If their form costs them a place in the team they get replaced. They lose out in the end. If he's doing it regularly, then something should be done about it. But, as for having a few beers after a defeat, why not? Should he, or any other player, hide at home or in a hotel room if they've lost as a form of punishment?
That's as far as you are concerned
Clearly the regular drinking of alcohol has a detrimental effect on sports performance , fitness and form
You are always banging on about the shambolic amateur set up off the pitch with the owners and boardroom so you should play with a straight bat on the playing front
I haven't said otherwise. However, I think there's a difference between having a night out a week and drinking regularly. If Tanner is on the booze regularly then that needs sorting as I said, but is once a week after a game a regular thing? As I said as well, that's his own personal life.
It’s 2024 not 1984 Eric. He’s a professional athlete. He shouldn’t be out on the piss at all in season, especially when he’s been called out on not being fit enough to start the 90 mins. Not if he wants a career out of this. Hes still acting like he’s playing in the 6th or 7th tier. I’m with Sludge, again (I need a lie down), you’re not playing with a straight bat. Two tier Eric.
He's playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. He shouldn't be drinking during the season and that's the reality of it. Have your week in Ibiza in June, that's fine, then close it down. At the highest level there's fine margins, Tanner needs all the help he can get.
Even one night out a week in British culture terms.....say 5 or 6 pints , kebab , bag of chips , a late night , poor sleep , affect next day ......is not acceptable surely?
I would be amazed if any of the top players touch the booze at all , plenty are tee total and those that are not are probably on a gentleman's agreement that there is no drinking during the season unless its a few drinks and a meal with a partner , family or a discreet away from the press , public etc
This is what proper , committed sports people do , there should be no excuses these days
It's like turning up to meet your future father and mother in law wearing a " death metal rules " t shirt
Like any employee, if he's not performing to the standard expected, he'll end up leaving, hoping he'll find another job somewhere, which will probably at a lower level.
I don't need to be in top physical condition to do my job, but he does.
No, I can’t think of a decent professional footballer that is out every weekend, getting caught in Snapchat gurning their face off, or having their pockets turned over by the police because their suspicious of your actions, that’s for sure.
Dele Ali maybe and look how his career has gone in the last few years.
