It's a battle for who picks up the reigns between family doctors (in my mum's case one told me they had nothing to do with social service referrals...rubbish), Community Resource Team who have their own "success" criteria , private care operators who pay a pittance but want the work and send anyone they can who is available via an App, District Nurses (will change bandages and dressings but not wash a patient) and family...try your damndest but get worn down by the system. On the other hand you can go for private residential accommodation at around a grand or more a week. So long as you can afford it.

Its driven me to the shrink , once when my old man had alzheimer's and more recently with the old dear
The outsourcing of social care to private companies and private residential accommodation is as I have stated , a ticking time bomb
Boris and his wonderful tories have done feck all for ten years , they need to provide funding to local authorities to build council run residential care homes for the very ill and provide cash to the local authorities so they can provide fully trained home care for the elderly who wish to stay at home and to ease the burden on the families that can take on some of the caring role .......not line the pockets of the owners of private care homes or the owners of private care companies who pay crap wages to their over worked staff
Welcome to boris land 2020
I didn't vote for the idiot but a hell of a lot of people are going to regret doing so

As far as I know Theodore Dalrymple has no religious beliefs. I have been an admirer of his writings and wisdom for more than 30 years. When future historians try to explain what went wrong in the UK they will turn to the writings of Theodore Dalrymple (Dr Anthony Daniels). I’m shocked that you don’t seem to know much about him.
This is a good short biography of him :

I’m not saying that if you look after yourself everything will end up well. We are all going to die. But if you accept responsibility for your own health then you might enjoy your later years a bit more than average. Also when you look after yourself you are lessening the burden on the health services. The money spent on our health services is not unlimited. Every penny spend on a druggie or alcoholic means less money for children and others who are ill through no fault of their own.
What steps are you taking to reduce the chance that you will need to be looked after when you are old? If you think this care is bad now just wait another 20 or 30 years.

You’re coming from a position of a privilege though. What about people who are born into struggling families and poverty or other difficult situations or have a poor education. It’s a lot more difficult to ensure you’re going to be ok if you’re not ok in the first place.

I had no privileges. I was brought up on a typical South Wales council estate. You don't need an education to eat well and exercise.

Re: The ticking time bomb of social care
You need a stable upbringing to stand a chance, you don’t have to be rich to be privileged. All it takes is a shit parent, one bit of trauma, one bit of bad luck and you can be ****ed mentally and on a slippery slope for your whole life. Mental health is a fragile thing.

I've known completely normal people who have come from families so dysfunctional that if you put it in a novel no one would believe it. Don't confuse mental health and unhappiness. Some of the people seeking solace from life's problems via drugs and prescriptions would be better off taking responsibility for their own health and mental state.

Re: The ticking time bomb of social care
We don’t put our newborn babies into care. We look after them and nurture them and organise our working day around them. So why are we quick to put our parents into care ?
A lot of old folk have big families who can’t be bothered to look after them when they most need it.
Most countries in Europe and all over the world look after their ageing and I’ll parents/grandparents, and many have them living with them.
If this was common practice here, then there would be more funds available for old folk with no families.
Same as the NHS. You can throw as much cash as you can at it, but if folk use it thoughtfully and sparingly, as it’s meant to be, and take a bit of responsibility for their health, it would thrive.
Unemployment benefit. In the 80’s most folk were horrified to have to rely on this, where as now a lot of people treat it as a way of life.
I’m no Tory voter and never have been, but I get fed up of folk laying the blame at there Door all the time. It’s easy to blame someone else all the time. Labour have been in power many times in my lifetime, and things have never been great under them either.
It’s a hard job trying to keep 60m people happy.
Ffs sake we can’t keep 100 posters on here happy and in agreement!
The folk in life who most need funds and help have long been swamped by the greedy and the lazy, but hey, it’s so much easier to blame the governments.

It doesn’t happen to everyone all I’m saying is it’s easy to say just look after yourself when you’re lucky enough to come from a good background. Not everyone is as lucky as us.

Do you think your evangelical approach to health applies to a young woman who was abused by her uncle and left home at 16 and found herself homeless on the streets of cardiff , got drawn into heroin , drawn into prostitution to pay for her habit , beaten by clients , beaten by her pimp etc
Shes a druggie as you put it , do you think you and your doctor mate vcan save her by telling her to do a few sit ups ?
Do you think her post traumatic stress disorder from being abused will be sorted out by eating more fibre ?
You are off your head

Loads of new born babies are put into care and have a shocking and traumatic childhood

Thatcher brought in incapacity benefit to keep the unemployment figures down , it was prevalent in the heavy industry areas where work had taken its toll on the workforce , it wasn't a choice

We eventually found one nearer to our home near bridgend which was better but still had its faults and was 800 quid a week
Now my old dear has mobility problems after coming out of hospital and after six weeks with the local council care team who have been coming in and waking her up , showerwe need ing her , making her breakfast and doing her shopping they contract it out to a private care firm and the difference in quality of care is staggering ......they turn up late , forget to open her curtains and leave early ......and the council are paying this firm for the pleasure of doing something they do really well , all to save money because central government says so
Luckily we can get as much care as we need in wales up to a cap of £90 per week , god knows what it's like in England
This side of Offa's its cough up until your assets are below £23,500 ish. You might get a SS loan against the elderley persons home until it can be sold or the person dies. Income-related means testing also applies re paying for residential accommodation. Step down residential interim care (maybe 2-6 weeks) is available which is the English equivelant of CRT carers coming in to an elderley persons home in Wales. But....that step down care may be miles away. Whichever way you look at it, it's a strain on the nerves and the finances. Will be looking at private step down care for my dad, tomorrow, who has been hospitalised whilst staying with us for Christmas. Starts at £1000 a week. Good luck to all reading this, who are on the same or similar, journey.

That story doesn’t make sense. If she was abused by the uncle why did she have to leave home? Was the uncle living in her house? Did she tell the police or her parents? If she left home why did she have to live on the streets? Most 16 year olds who leave home don’t sleep on the streets. If she was on the streets how could she afford heroin. In your story she was taking heroin before she became a prostitute. If she could afford the heroin before she became a prostitute why did she need to become a prostitute? This story seems to full of people and things making her do things. Most druggies are like that. It is never something they chose to do. It is always something forced on them.

Your ignorance is staggering , thousands of young people leave home to flee abuse from relatives , often it is the father or step father , often it is a family member like an uncle , people who are abused are often threatened that if they do tell anyone , they wont be believed or will be in trouble ....so they turn to drugs to block out the pain ....most 16 year olds who are forced to leave home because of abuse are either lucky enough to be offered temporary accommodation by homeless charities or they sleep on friends sofas or sleep on the streets
This isn't a story , it's real life ......why do you think there are several charities in cardiff dedicated to the serious problem of youth homelessness ?
She could afford heroin because dealers offer vulnerable people cheap drugs to get them hooked and by the time they have a habit , she pays for the heroin by selling her body for sex
You clearly have no idea about the cycle of abuse , drugs , homelessness and poverty , no idea at all
I used to work with young homeless kids in a project in cardiff and one in bridgend , clearly you have the answer to the problem , the young kid being abused by her uncle or step father should pull herself together , eat healthily , go for a run and get a job , get in touch with social services , the police and the local council who have hundreds of cosy flats for young homeless people , I think you should tell them where they are going wrong
Jesus ****ing christ I think some people out there are living in the ****ing clouds

You only see what you want to see Sludge. Any stick to beat the tories with. That’s what let’s you down. The right or the left in this country can’t get it right, but you only see things from one side.
I’m a Cardiff boy who grew up in Ely and now live in Canton. I know for a fact that there is absolutely no excuse for any able bodied person in Cardiff to be out of work. Every ‘worker’ I’ve ever met in my home city, have never been out of work for too long.
The benefit system was set up for people in real need, but as I said above, it’s been swamped with greedy *****, lazy ***** and single mothers with no other ambition in life, than to drop a sprog and let others pay to look after it.

I am wasting my time with you as with the other poster
The benefits system has become dickensian , forcing poor people to food banks and others to suicide
We are talking people with mental illness , multiple sclerosis , epilepsy etc who could never work in a million years
You clearly actually believe the crap The Sun and the daft TV programmes tell you
Over and out

Suit yourself mate if you want to bow out now.
I don’t read any papers anymore.
I base all of my opinions on my life experiences.
None of our governments in my life time have been anything to shout about.
In any society you will get the rich and the greedy at the top and the poor and the meek at the bottom.
The majority of us are somewhere in the middle.
A socialist system has just as much chance of failing, as a capitalist system.
There are faults in any system you can think of .
Us in the “middle” are just as selfish in our own way as the greedy ***** at the top.
Most of us who work have a decent house, decent lifestyle etc etc, and hand on hearts, most of us could help any of our neighbours, friends or family who are down on their luck or struggling but we choose not to.

There are jobs out there, I’m never out of work long and I’ll take shit agency jobs as a stop gap if I’m looking for a specific job, or I’ve had a fixed term contract.
People definitely are lazy, can’t be bothered to call around agencies or look on indeed. I sorted a cv out and sent it absolutely everywhere I could in indeed when I was out of work last time. Called numerous agencies daily and was out of work less than a week.
People definitely are lazy.

Re: The ticking time bomb of social care
Now that Sludge has left this thread we can talk about him without him knowing.
When he says it is good to spend time and money on druggies he is half right. It is good, but it is only good for the givers and not the takers. Helping others less fortunate than you is good for you. It gives you a purpose and it stops you dwelling on your own problems. Unfortunately, it is not so good for the druggies because they are usually selfish gits who only care about themselves and they see good people like Sludge as "marks".
If you asked a druggie to turn their lives around by helping others they would laugh at you. They would say no one needs help more than me. I am the one who needs help. Forget about the others. Even if you could get them to spend a little time with an lonely old person who needs a bit of care around the house they would just steal from them.
Sludge gave us an Olivia Twist story but if you looked into her history you would find that she brought a lot her misfortune on herself by her own selfishness and impulsive behaviour. She would have messed around at school and played truant because school was "boring". Her mother wouldn’t have been able to stop her going out and hanging around on the streets with her friends because it was "boring" at home. She wouldn’t have listened to her mother when she warned her about her dodgy boyfriend. Why don’t you go out with John who works at the Coop. "Oh, he’s boring". She wouldn’t have wanted job a McDonalds because it was "boring". Why work all week for £200 when she can earn that in an hour doing something less boring.
Money wasted on druggies is money that could be spent on sick children and on better care for the aged.

So a young girl who is raped at the age of fourteen by her step father or her uncle , gets put into council care , if shes lucky ......and becomes involved with other vulnerable people .......is a " druggie " ?
Shes as sick and is in need of help as a kid with spina bifida, brittle bone syndrome , childhood cancer or a disabled war veteran
You are very ill informed and ignorant of the desperate plight of many young vulnerable people who end up being " druggies "
Tell me , apart from reading the daily mail , what experience do you have of working with young vulnerable children and did your pull your bootstraps up approach go down well with your employer ?

There's big difference between people with those conditions and a druggie. The difference is that no one chooses to be born with spina bifida or cystic fibrosis. Druggies choose to be like that and they are taking resources away from people who are sick through no fault of their own.
There's an article in The Mail today about Jenny Agutter's niece. She has cystic fibrosis and like many other sufferers she had to struggle on without access to the best drugs for the condition. The NHS couldn't afford them. Money spent on druggies is less money spent elsewhere.
You are approaching the druggie problem from the helper angle but I, like others on this board, have experienced the victim side of things. Anyone with a druggie in the family is a victim. We all know that lying comes as naturally to a druggie as breathing. I don't accept anything they say as true. They don't even believe that there is such a thing as truth. Everything they say is all about getting what they want. They will feed you any story and that's why I take your version of this girl's history with a pinch of salt.
There was a video going around a few years ago of some American kids going into an Apple shop and buying the last ibook or something and when they bought it they smashed it on the floor and started laughing. Maybe it was a protest against consumerism. Maybe they just did it for a laugh. That sickened me because there were so many poor kids who would have loved that ibook. Druggies are like those spoilt kids. They are given healthy bodies that those born with disabilities would love to have had and they choose to destroy those bodies with drugs. Then these selfish gits go looking for sympathy from well-meaning but gullible people like you.

If you do contact the Richmond fellowship
If you don't, stop talking out of your arse
Like I said, I’ve had some jobs that are fixed term and other self Employed roles which have had small gaps in between, so not being a lazy dole collecting excuse making **** if look for something to tide me over in between.
It’s a shame that so many people look down on roles and low paying jobs, preferring to collect their dole money instead, while complaining there are no jobs out there or the immigrants took them.
I’m surprised you can leave the house without having a constant hard on you weird sex pest. Is that your excuse for not working?

So you think a young girl sexually abused and thrown into local authority care is a druggie ?
I can only assume you are on a wind up

Like I said there are people out there that have conditions such as mental health problems , disability , spina bifida , brittle bones , motor neurone disease , fibromyalgia etc that means they are not lazy , they cannot work never mind typing up a cv and sending it to indeed
If you had a serious life limiting disability u wouldn't be saying oh anyone can work and those that don't are just lazy
You are talking out of your arse now go and bet on the horses or something

No we are not , all along the issue has been about health care and druggies , you have just turned up late as usual and joined in talking nonsense
Now kindly go back to the football although you don't seem to know a lot about that either

I replied to a post talking about people being too lazy to work and added my opinion, I have happily avoided the tripe you have served up in this thread as it is probably a one sided view with extreme examples to back up your usual tripe.

You should have read the title of the thread and following contributions to enable you to make an informed opinion instead of jumping in like a dopey clown with big clowns shoes on
Now happy xmas and move along
