Page is tactically inept, when things aren't working he doesn't change things, it's a bit like watching City at times.

Re: FT: SLOVAKIA 4 - 0 WALES. Match thread
That was dreadful, even allowing for out of season, weakened team, Page has to answer.

Re: FT: SLOVAKIA 4 - 0 WALES. Match thread
Had no interest watching it and not at all surprised at the result when I saw it.
I think we have gone back decades since Page took over and I can't bear watching his teams.
I also think he is doing more harm for the youngsters development by playing them and doing major damage in our plummeting down the rankings.
He and the FAW can all feck off as far as I'm concerned.
Giggs owes us big time!

This piece says there was an air of resignation to Page after the game and it’s hard not to agree when you read what he said. You would have thought there’d be a reaction to Thursday and I feel there was for about half an hour, but, once we went a goal behind, we threw the towel in. As I said during the game, it was the sort of performance (against not a very good side I felt) which gets a manager sacked in club football.

One thing I’d be doing if I was Wales manager is pick any Welsh qualified goalkeeper who starts next season as his club’s first choice in the squad for September’s internationals.

In reality and as it stands he's not even at Joe Allen's level when the little Jack baastard was at his peak.
As for last night, Ampadu and Cabango was an obvious disaster waiting to happen.

There are some parallels with the second reign of John Toshack. Go back to the Mark Hughes era and that was a time when, apart from one calendar year where we did well in those friendlies and beat Italy at home, we weren't that great. We crumbled when it came to qualifying and ultimately we lost to Ukraine in the playoff. We started the next campaign badly, which was no surprise. Hughes just wanted a crack at England. Then we had a number of older players past their peak and it needed rebuilding.
Under Toshack results were generally shit though we weren't as one dimensional as we were under Sparky. We played more youngsters than at any time in our history - most never really made it but we had players who had lots of experience. Brian Flynn commented in a TV documentary about the rise of the Welsh team that the work he and Tosh and others did in bringing the kids though was never going to bear fruit until years after they'd left and that's what happened. I see similar parallels where Page is trying to give some youngsters a go. I don't have an issue with that.
However I never thought Toshack was an average manager. I don't see Page as being particularly good in terms of tactics and being able to motivate his troops. He talks about being in transition, but we have been for some time. The squad needed changes before the World cup, but like Mark Hughes, Page stayed too loyal to too many that didn't deserve it. That's set us back and I don't see us being close to qualification for several years to come. It might also be easy to be a bit blase about qualification. We'd managed 3 of the last 4 tournaments before losing on penalties, so that's been a major achievement for us in itself. It has needed rebuilding since the World cup. I'm not sure Page is the right person for it and I wouldn't be sorry if he was replaced.

he looks punch drunk out of his depth. I'll never understand why these managers dont suddenly think "well..i guess my plan A isnt working lets start from scratch".
Id be a lot more acceptant to the buluts and pages of the world if they recognized their mistakes and showed willingness to change things up on the pitch rather than just owning up to it with empty words in the post match interviews then going again in the very next match.

Rob Page, as nice a bloke as he seems, should have been replaced after the World Cup . We were woeful in that tournament. We had a decent draw for these Euros with an aging Croatia as top seeds and we also had the back up of a guaranteed play off , even though we lost all of our nations league games, yet even with 2 chances we failed to qualify. We were terrible in both games against Armenia , failed against Turkey and were even a little lucky at home against an awful Estonia side. We got one decent performance, home to Croatia ( and stole a point in the away game).
Then we get the most favourable draw we could have wished for in the play offs and also blew that, Poland were there for the taking.
That is when we should have thanked him for his services and got in a new manager who would have been given some slack for these pointless friendlies and could have started afresh in the Nations league games in September
Page did seem very down in the post match interviews, almost as if he knows what should be coming but with the Welsh FA who knows!

in management and indeed coaching, there's a law of diminishing returns about how much impact you can have with a particular group of people.
at some point they will have heard all of your anecdotes, and will know exactly what you are going to say and do as well as you are. if you've reached that point you have to either change the manager or the staff.
as we don't have any more international quality players just waiting around for caps I think there's only one thing to do.

I've been coached by a few ex-internationals and none of them did anecdotes, it was all drills and feedback when you weren't doing what was required for the system to work. We spent ages walking around the pitch in tactical formation learning what to do in different situations. It was very tedious considering I'd signed up to play football.

I was coached for 8 years and never once did i walk around a pitch in tactical formation. **** that, i'd have gone home.

These would have been contemporaries of Alex Ferguson and his ilk, from the Jock Stein school of football. Now it's all done on white boards and computer screens.

Mine was old school. Bob Smith, Jimmy Mullen, Gavin Tait, Frank Burrows, Len Ashurst, Stan Montgomery, Alan Durban. The best coach i had was a bloke named Gary Williams from the Port Talbot area. I think that he was a school teacher by profession. I learnt loads from him.

Didn't we have a manager called Graham Williams? I think he might have been a teacher at some point in his career. Didn't last long in the job.

We did (i think) although it wasn't him. The bloke i'm talking about ended up running the City academy or whatever it was called back then in Jack land. Great coach and really nice bloke, as was Jimmy Mullen, they both made things fun. They were the only two out of the ones i've named that i wasn't scared of.

i agree. I also think that may want Page the FA to sack him and this is his way to try to give them the nudge to do the right thing. I dont blame him for taking the job or holding out for a relatively small payday. The blame comes down to the welsh FA in that reguard.
However that does not let page off the hook when it comes to tactics. He could stop bashing his head against the same old tactics and actually just go for broke and try something out of his comfort zone. Is he really that one dimensional? it does reek of lack of care for the team

Do you mean Dave Williams ex Bristol Rovers player (and Norwich?)?
