Champions league final
In Istanbul, are any fans allowed for this one? Be gutting for Man City in particular if they finally make it and can’t have any fans there? If it’s an all English affair is there any point it being in Turkey with no supporters as opposed to maybe being in England with some supporters?
-
Re: Champions league final
Every chance now of it being an all English affair.
-
Re: Champions league final
Yeah which could have some fans present if here no doubt....

The authorities and fans are stuffed, so to speak.

Apparently turkey and Cyprus are in lockdown to get in a good position for the holiday season, not because they're out of control.

Neither BBC nor Reuters seem to mention the holiday factor as the main reason for the Lockdown but other sources are available, of course :-)

Could be an English foursome in the European finals.

Think it goes to show that the Premier league for all it's sins has to be recognized as the best league in the world.

Re: Champions league final
All the games have been on BT sport does anyone know if the final is on terrestrial tv or sky? Obviously looks like there will be some British interest if not all British interest. It does seem weird that the final will be in Istanbul if there are two British teams and it would be sensible to switch it to the UK if no fans are allowed in in Istanbul but sensible and European football authorities do not go together.
-
Re: Champions league final
In a way, it would slightly lessen the experience for Man City or Chelsea if they do both get to the final and they end up switching it to Wembley . It would barely seem like a European final, playing a team you play multiple times a year, in a ground you play in multiple times a year . But I suppose if it's that or no fans watching it then it is the lesser of two evils

the bumper TV deals are starting to show. Also premier league clubs seem to be getting smarter, throughout the league (with one or two exceptions)

Wonder if they'll start a Mini-Super-League and play each other 24 times a season ?

They will probably just move it to Baku or Qatar if left to uefa

Re: Champions league final
The Turkish authorities are now saying their lockdown will end on the 17th May and they expect to allow at least 9000 in the ground and probably a lot more. Turkey is still on the orange list so anyone going is going to have to get a negative test and quarantine for ten days after they get back at the moment. Difficult to make travel plans in those circumstances.
The Europa final in in Poland,Gdansk, probably two British teams involved there too.
-
Re: Champions league final
Have they cancelled the 2nd legs then?

Now talking of moving it to the UK......

Re: Champions league final
Wembley has hosted two Champions League finals in the 2010's; is scheduled to host 8 matches for the Euros 2020 (the tournament where smaller nations were meant to host a game) including both semi-finals and a final; is the host for the 2022 women's Euros; is the host for the 2024 Champions League and is bidding to host 2030 World Cup.
Does Wembley/England really need the Champions League final in 2021?

Agreed, but I wonder if Spanish press were asking for the final between Real and Atletico Madrid to be moved to Spain or whether it's a British/English thing?

The circumstances were different. No one called for the Liverpool/Tottenham final to be moved. Or Man U/Chelsea. It does seem ridiculous for two English teams to fly to the other side of Europe to play a game behind closed doors. And it's inevitable that fans will travel when they really should not. At least if fans traveled to another city in England everyone could go home afterwards.

Cyprus comes out of a 2 week lockdown tomorrow. Plenty of Israeli and Russian tourists here already.
