How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
Or one of our players scoring an own goal
My hearts in my mouth at every backpass

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
Yep. He does look dodgy in that respect.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
I noticed it vs Port Vale and the pressing from their attacker made me clench. He's playing with fire to put it mildly.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
We appear to have a keeper who’s half decent with his feet. A bit of a maverick as well. Remember those kinda players?
Wow! Shock! Horror!
FFS. Folk are starting panic threads on here just for the sake of it now.

I mean, what do you expect with this ownership? Of course the morale is low. I'm one of the more positive ones as of late, which should say something.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
At the close of last season based on comments here, there was a general consensus that of the few players we'd keep, Alnwick was definitely one. All of a sudden he's not good enough for our Pep because he doesn't play the ball out like Ederson. We'll see.

Honestly, I've honestly found sweeper keepers to be quite overrated. It's not like they can dribble the ball up the pitch viably unless the entire team is already in the opposition's half. I'd rather spend the time training for shot stopping. A David Raya type.
I've always backed Alnwick, and it would be a shame to see him go.

If it creates more goals than it concedes what’s the issue.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
On Alnwick I always thought he was decent with the ball, more than once pinged a lovely cross field through ball.
But then was caught at least once with it, I'm sure the new guy will at some point, even the best do.

Wasn’t Raya specifically signed because he was miles better than Ramsdale with the ball at his feet?
I agree with the rest of your post though, a keeper should be a shot stopper first and the rest is a nice to have. Especially at this level Alnwick is perfectly competent, the last position we needed to prioritize signing in my opinion.
Speaking of goalies, was stunned to see that Allsop is starting for Brum in the Championship with all the money at their disposal.

We are in league one.
This business of keeping possession regardless of where the ball is is not only lunacy, it’s boring as ****.
Some people wanted an antidote to Warnockball.
Other teams wanted an antidote to Pullis Ball.
Passing the ball around to try and pull one of the opposition to step out of their defensive shape is a lot more boring IMO and definitely less effective unless you have great players to implement it.
Peps football with his Barcelona team was spectacular.
It then became “The Swansea Way” and tried countless times with varying success.
In the few games that we’ve played, I’ve not noticed any players making a run or even offering themselves for a throw in.
In my mind it’s destined to fail and quickly.
Mainly down to not having the players to carry it out but also how one dimensional it is.
To me, BBM is going to go the same way as Trollope.
He can stick to his philosophy as much as he wants…but it’s not going to get us anywhere.
Obviously, I’d love to be eating humble pie and will be delighted to acknowledge how full of shit and clueless I am.
Just my thoughts, but as things stand…it’s going to be a season to forget.
There is the caveat of new players that we bring in could change things.
Right now though I’m as optimistic as the Osman, Hibbitt, Neal time.
-
Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
To be fair to BBM, we had exactly the same problem the last 18 months with players not making runs and having no movement in the final third, across two managers who played very different styles (if you can even figure out what style Riza was trying to play).
I don't have a ton of faith in what he's trying to do either, but it might be time to recognize this is just a very poorly put together squad.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
FFS . We're 3 games in and unbeaten by the way and all we get is negativity. Give the bloke some f...ing time .

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
Some nippy forward will have Trott’s pants down eventually. And no matter how competent Trott is with the ball at his feet the success of the system is only as good as the unit around him, our lot aren’t up to such intricacies, they’re league one run of the mill defenders. We’re just about getting away with it so far, sometimes by the skin of our teeth.

So what. He’ll make many more good saves than he’ll get caught out. As the poster said above, 3 games in, unbeaten, some world class free kicks and still folk on here are moaning.
This board is getting embarrassing.

The way we are going to play, i can see why BBM made goalkeeper his first priority.

Erm….its a football messageboard that has kept going due to differing opinions & viewpoints, you’re moaning at posters who you say are moaning. Any discussions re. The team, the club, the tactics, the formation etc etc should be welcomed & discussed. Isn’t that the whole point of a football messageboard?

Trollope came to mind straight away - steady build up play from the back with not much end result. That's the difference between a manager and a coach. For the coach it's all [or mostly] about how they play, with a manager it's about getting results. So what if Nathan Trott isn't as good a 'keeper as Alnwick, or even Turner, at least he can pass the ball to our back four OK.

To an extent, but it’s overkill on the negativity, and getting worse.
Do you ever wonder why this MB and others are made up of less than 1% of the clubs fan base?
At a wild guess, I’d say it’s because 99% of fans just go to the games, have a moan or celebrate with a few pints after the game, then go home and forget it all till the next game.
On MB’ it’s forensic analysis after every incident in a game, then every day till the next game. It’s getting to the stage on here now, where wins are getting criticised.

He is a converted left back, and a player that uses his feet more than his hands is what BBM wants.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
First thing to say is that I wouldn't have signed another keeper if I were manager. To my mind, Alnwick is good enough for this division and Turner looked good enough in the one game he played. However, three unbeaten games in, plus a pretty successful pre season programme, and it's clear that the BBM overhaul of the way we play is a very thorough one and so I'm not as surprised now that he wanted to bring in his own man as I was when it was first mooted.
As for Trott, no one can say how good a shot stopper he is because, for all that people like me moan about our defending, he's not had a serious save to make yet in the two matches he's played - he had no chance with the goal he conceded. The name Ryan Allsop came up in this thread, I was never much of a fan of his, but that was because I thought he wasn't great at shot stopping. As for his ability with the ball at his feet, I can. recall him getting caught out once or twice over what was close to a full season he played for us, but, from memory, that part of his game never cost us a goal. Therefore, if Trott turns out to be as good as Allsop with the ball at his feet and is a better shot stopper than him, I'll have no problem with him as our first choice through this season.
It was interesting to hear BBM say after the Swindon game that we didn't play it long to Salech enough after he came on - his reasoning was that, by doing that a few times, Swindon might have had second thoughts about committing so fully to a high pressing game in the second half. That sounds fair enough to me and hardly suggests that it is play it out from the back at all costs under BBM.
-
Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
I think we are overpassing it at the back and no doubt there will be slip ups.
However the attempts at the passing game are clearly better than the timid attempts of the likes of Steve Morison. Balls are being switched out wide and the play spread. Even in the poor Port Vale display we managed this only for the ball to be wasted by our wide players.
We are also not sitting back and holding onto leads. Full backs are trying to get forward. Bagan had a shot inside the box in the closing stages.
If we improve with the system I think it will be at least far entertaining than the last few seasons.
I very much doubt we have the players to challenge at the top end but thats not on the manager or system.
On Trott ill judge him on his ability to stop shots and command his box.
So far hes barely had anything to do.

Yeah, I go with someone who just takes it game to game, doesn’t bother with ‘midweek madness’ on the internet. But we’re all different and you replying to me and me replying to you, very amicably I may add, is the crux of messageboards I reckon. We’ve had far worse melodramatic meltdowns on here in the past than a discussion about the pluses & minuses of overplaying at the back. Long my the differing opinions continue I say, keeps the messageboard going.

Keep the message boards going, but let’s have more humour, and topics on Cardiff and the surrounding areas
After all, if City finish top or bottom this season, our lives will go on , and the stalwarts will still turn up next yr. 👍

You alluded to it, But i feel that bringing in his own man in goal is one of BBM's biggest decisions, and it's a decision that i believe he had to take. It seems to me that he wants players who he can programme into a style of play, and getting a goalkeeper early on is probably the best way of doing it. I think that we can all see what he's trying to do, he did go long ball out for the last 15 minutes against Swindon, so maybe the players needed to think on their feet and do it without being instructed to do so, although who knows whether they have that privilege.
I'm pretty convinced that we will do well this season once we can adapt to opposing sides getting physical with us and playing high in order to stop us playing out and drawing them in. My concern was the shape and distance the midfield were from the defence during the 2nd half against Swindon, and how easily Swindon drove through it. Luckily for us, Swindon lacked quality in the final third or took the wron options, same as Port Vale did, and it's that lack of quality and my belief that most of our players are better footballers than the majority of this division that i i think we'll do alright.

Far better than getting robbed on the edge of your own box. Can’t remember which game it was but he actually passed to someone who had 2 players on their back 20 yards out. I’m all for keeping the ball if it’s for a constructive reason but there’s no need for this high risk stuff.

It’s not a “panic thread”, it’s a legitimate question !
If you noticed the time that the “question”, was put, you would notice it was just after the Sheffield United keeper got caught at Birmingham.
That’s why there are “question marks”, after the words, as it’s a question not a panic thread !
Be honest with yourself, every time the ball gets passed back, people’s brain automatically goes into “what’s going to happen, mode”
It’s why people watch formula 1, for the crashes !!!!

Mmm...dont we need a left back? and put turner in goal.
We can then have an extra outfield player on the bench too

We only need two keepers. We,ve got NG & Bagan does a good impression of a keeper that save against Leeds was special.

We could have the two best goalkeepers in the world in goal at the same time and I’d still be nervous watching a back pass! Just don’t pass it on target is all I ask for!

As opposed to lumping it back to the opposition, who gain possession, move up the field….and score.
