"It's a competition that we value.
There's certain players that have played a lot of games for us in a short of space of time.
I'm conscious of the fact that they can't play them all and there will definitely be changes for that game."

The ref is the husband of Sian Massey, the lino that Kevin McNaughton knocked over.

Tickets for the terrace behind the goal on sale. Looks like they sold seats on the side first

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I think the three that travelled to Kazakstan last week could do with staying at home for this. I’d also leave Ashford back in south Wales. I think his involvement with the Wales U21s may have knocked him off his rhythm this week.
When did they introduce this inconvenient group stage for the EFL Trophy BTW?

To encourage parents to take their children to an otherwise unappealing fixture?

Would make sense.

They are still running on middle earth time down there.

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
While I expect changes, there are a lot of first team players still needing to catch up with minutes.
I would not be surprised to see Callum Robinson, Isaac Davies, David Turnbull, Gabriel Osho, Perry Ng and Matt Turner all start, alongside some younger players like Nyakuhwa, Mafico, Giles etc.
I would like to see Robertson & Kellyman get some time off the bench if they are ready as well

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I don't really care about this cup, but i don't want to lose either just so they can keep momentum going. Hopefully a win not in the dying seconds of the match

Difficult to argue against anything you've said here.

I have an argument against:
Qualifying Outfield Players (EFL Clubs)
A club must have a minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting lineup. A player qualifies if they:
- Started the previous or next first-team fixture.
- Are among the top 10 players at the club who have made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions this season.
- Have made 40 or more career first-team starting appearances, including international matches.
- Are on loan from a Premier League or EFL Category One Academy club.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm supping ale in a bar in China right now.
I'll try to digest what you've posted tomorrow.

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Just been looking back at our record in this competition over the years as I can't actually remember us playing in it before.
We played in it 18 times between 1985/86 and 2002/3, during which time it was called the LDV Vans Trophy, Auto Windscreens Shield, Autoglass Trophy, Leyland DAF Cup, Sherpa Van Trophy and Freight Rover Trophy.
Over those 18 seasons we won a grand total of 10 matches, never progressing further than the 2nd round (unless you count the final season when we reached the quarter final, but we only had to win 1 match to reach that stage - away at Exeter - our last victory in the competition).
In our first appearance in 1985-86 we lost both group matches, against Newport and Swansea.
Maybe this will be our year!

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I wouldn’t be surprised if Chambers and NG play again this evening. We have to have a number of starters in the side from our last league game and I reckon both won’t be starting this saturday so they can play again this evening
-
Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Be surprised if Osho isn't starting
Imagine Kellyman will have a came too, any idea how close Robertson is to fitness?

Doesn't the '40 or more 1st team starting appearances' mean we only have to play Chambers, Ng, Osho and Robinson to cover the four qualifying players, as it's career rather than current club?

Surprised Lawlor is playing.
Not much surprise with the others, strong team for this comp.

Dominating possession played some nice stuff but could be 2 down.

Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Robinson has been really poor so far. Terrible Touch and well off the pace of the game.
We are getting lots of the ball but not creating enough

Disappointing that Alnwick couldn’t find another club during the summer. Bit of waste all round really.

Kellyman subbed for Perrett.

Hope it's nothing serious and just precautionary. Took a nasty tackle earlier.

He didn’t seem to be in any bother…
I wonder if he started as part of the starting eleven criteria and he was gonna get 30 minutes in this game anyway.
-
Re: EXETER CITY v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
It's like a pre-season game.
Think id rather Isaak centre forward.

Maybe they're easing him back in after a very bad injury last season. Seemed to have quality though.
