Think he makes a good point in that we appear to be considered a foreign club when it comes to loans and an “English” one when it comes to bigger clubs taking our best prospects for a pittance - now that would be a court case we would win.

    Quite.

The overall points of the article are interesting though and a little concerning. Charlie Crew going to Leeds as well as the reported interest in several players suggests this is a talented group (they also form the bulk of a good Wales u17 side) so it would be a shame to lose them

Biancheri was supposed to be off in the summer but he stayed. Flaw with his article, there’s nothing to stop them from leaving if we are at Cat 1 either. We just need to make sure they know they have a path to the first team. If they still leave, that’s disappointing but that’s the best incentive. Us being an average at best Champ club is probably the best thing for these young lads as they’ve only got to be better than people like Harris and Whyte to get minutes.

Crew has left, he’s not on trial. He’s signed for Leeds

He was legally poached last summer from our academy.

The current system stinks. Anyone showing any promise can be enticed away with next to no recompense to the club who spent years developing them.

The current system needs to change or more clubs will adopt the Brentford model which doesn't benefit youngsters.

Using Rabbi Matondo's exit as an example a fairer system would have given us at least 50% of the fee Manchester city got for him. The percentage should be set by the number of years between transfer fee and joining their first academy. If say we had spent 5 years developing the player and so had Manchester city then a 50 50 split would be fair.

Well said, it is a disgrace. If not checked, it could end up with only half a dozen teams having Academy's throughout the English League.
David Moyes's suggestion of teams being limited on registrations is one of the best I've heard.

The last I heard is that it would be a Cat 1 academy in all but name.

Am I the only one watching this? 0-0 at half time and forget about efforts on target, I don’t think City have had a shot yet. My message to anyone not watching is an ancient comedian’s catchphrase (was it Arthur Askey?) - you lucky people!

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

OMG Xavier Benjamin has been outstanding the first half.
From his excellent distribution with a defence splitting pin point pass as a highlight to tracking back and cooly denying Watford an open goal after Collins had rounded our keeper only to stroke the ball into the net to score - Benjamin who had ten yards to make up raced past the Watford striker taking the ball from his feet and clearing.
Breathtaking to see especially his composure
First team football is surely inevitable for this young man and deservedly so - soon !!

Just turned on for the 2nd half so haven't suffered as yet

My question would be that why aren't Davies and Colwill getting game time to get minutes under their belt or is Colwill still tired after warming up for about an hour on Saturday

PS just saw a shot on target by leahy

More boring rubbish from a Cardiff team - 3-0 down to a Watford team which I believe only had three points going into today’s game.

I watched about 25 minutes of the 2nd half, same as the first team, no urgency , no threat going forward , ponderous passing without any intent of progress and basic errors at the back

    Depressing stuff

They'd only scored 5 times in 12 matches before today too!
