Thread: Siopis

    Siopis

Watching the Ireland Greece game and Siopis is having a great game on the ball and off the ball. He hasn't wasted one pass, is well involved and tackling well.

The big difference is the team he's playing in are playing with pace, movement and energy.

Is international football that high a standard these days , you could argue that a decent championship side would beat Greece and Ireland.

Breaking up an Ireland counter attack, so taking one for the team. 1 yellow for us so far this season, and 6 from 42 games last season.

I might be wrong but sure Ireland had a number of premier League players in their team and top championship players.

Every team needs a midfielder that's going to pick up a few bookings.

Something like that, 30 seconds on an app. Was interested to see how often he picked up a yellow as didn’t seem like he was prolific.

Oh how I wish to see Siopis play in a decent championship side.

Definitely, I'll say the same about Ramsey.

Watching him with Wales last week was in stark contrast to how he looks at City. Perhaps I'm seeing this through rose tinted specs mind?

Didn’t have 3 men marking him

If only some of our players moved about a bit and perhaps were able to pass through defensive lines, Ramsey might have a bit more space?

Still, we're not the ones who can't see this.

    Re: Siopis

As a lone water carrier and spoiler in a midfield three with two progressive and attacking counterparts he'd be very good at this level, in the fleeting time before Ramsey got injured at the start of last season there were signs that we were really onto something, unfortunately shortly after that Bulut decided that two holding midfielders, 7 behind the ball at all times with a slow buildup and grinding out results was the way to play.

Saw this on Twitter, Ireland's competitive record if you take out their games v Gibraltar

Most recent win: 716 days ago (vs Armenia)

Most recent draw: 821 days ago (vs Ukraine)

Most recent clean sheet: 824 days ago (vs Scotland)

Most recent away win: 1033 days ago (vs Luxembourg)

    That's rough.

And the player some seem to believe is the Irish equivalent to Messi (O'Dowda) couldn't even get on the pitch in their two Nations League games...

It's a mystery why his glittering form this season hasn't been rewarded with starts for Ireland.

England v Greece 10th October should be a good one. Both on 6 points and England's wins don't look so hot now after Greece's results. I'm going for a draw at Wembley and a win for Greece in November.

England will win both to nil.

One of those matches will be a draw.

    Re: Siopis

For me, he’s not a defensive midfielder in the championship, he’s not strong enough. He certainly doesn’t fit our formation, and leaves to many gaps in behind.
