I understand why but I’m not sure it’s the right move. He was playing well at Cheltenham, fitted into the system and was appreciated. He’s got to go to Exeter, do it all again and break into their team, which is a tough ask. He’s got to be in our squad next season.

Atleast the club are finding him nice locations to live in, that's something us fans can take some comfort from.

Totally agree mate, I'm quite surprised. I don't imagine the standard is that much greater at Exeter. I didn't know whether it was something to do with wages and that Exeter would pay a higher % but I doubt he's going to be on big money.

The standard is definitely higher in League One than League Two - so a move to Exeter will test him more. I can see the argument about having to break into a new side and establish himself again with a new manager - but that is surely partly the point? This season looks like a pretty well managed two-stage crash course for Joel Colwill so he is ready to take on the Championship in 2025-6.

A tad chilly down at Dawlish Warren this time of year...

League One to League Two is night and day. Look at the clubs, Charlton, Bolton, Birmingham, Huddersfield, Reading, Barnsley, Wigan and Blackpool have all been Premier League clubs. It won't be a money thing, it'll be to push him to the next level so he can make the step up to us next season. I'm quite confident he'll be in our squad next season.

I've realised my point is what Jon said, so this

My issue with Cheltenham was he was playing at 10, I think he will end up playing deeper for us, hopefully Exeter player him a bit deeper to help him work on his defensive game.

yes a much better managed loan than we have typically done in the past. it's up to him now to take the opportunity

He's done well. Nice to see one of our young professionals having a successful loan spell, i can't really remember the last time it happened.

Eli King was getting rave reviews at Morecambe and Ross County but a move to the next level with Stevenage hasnt worked out for him.

    Re: Joel Colwill

Maybe they want young Colwill to get league 1 experience in preparation for us playing in that division next season and he can join the first team in the summer and hit the ground running

Hes got to go there and impress the manager, so in that respect it will give him a good grounding for when he returns to us, as typically we 2-3 different managers a season

Do you really think he will be a part of the matchday squads next season? I would be very surprised.

Given what's happened to Keiron Evans, Eli King, Raheem Conte, Ollie Denham, Xavier Benjamin, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Tom Sang and every other City youngster that has shown glimpses of their potential only to be loaned out and forgotten.

The key difference here is that Joel Colwill is actually good

Just like Rubin, Bagan , Ashford, can we count Tanner ? all cast aside to the dustbin of football... Oh , wait a sec..

It was an odd post. Tanner and Bagan have come back off loans and featured regularly (Ralls too, back in the day), Isaak Davies surely would have played this season without his injury, Tom Davies and Luke Pearce have both been on loan from here and came on the other day, even four of the 'forgotten' players he mentioned have played for us this season. Mark Harris and McGuinness came back off loans and played regularly, I'm not sure what his point was really.

Xaviar Benjamin is playing for Enfield now, by the way. Hardly the same as us forgetting about Velikonja.

Might be our third kit next season, with some mumbo jumbo about what the red stripes and the white stripes symbolise.

Listening to the Exeter game over the weekend, the commentators were saying that the pitch is starting to break up, and it is getting worse every game; I hope it does not affect his game if it becomes a mudbath.
