If they'd done the norm for FM25- barely any changes under the bonnet but superficial tweaks - they could have sold it as normal while they got the new match engine ready. They made announcements that they couldn't keep up with and it's a costly error. Not just in revenue but reputation too.
It'll recover I'm sure. Nothing else comes close. The issue I guess is funding as there's a whole years worth of sales gone I assume. Perhaps they can do an update to the latest one, I don't know?
It's a huge balls up though.
They can't renew the licences, SEGA will fund it though, it makes a fortune.
FM26 has to be outstanding now, though
