Thread: Second goal today - O’Dowda

    Second goal today - O’Dowda

Beautiful cross and header from Alves and Yak respectively. But O’Dowda’s little bit of skill and burst of pace to get us up the field deserves some praise. Our commentators didn’t even mention it as far as I’m aware.

Easily one of my favourite players for us in recent years.

Just a very solid Championship level player, one of the few we've had consistently in recent years. And to think how happy the Wurzels were to see the back of him, just goes to show how a change can benefit.

To be fair if we were seriously looking at rising above lower mid table ish then I'd move him on. I can't see any serious top half club wanting him.

However he's a big reason we have stayed around lower mid table over the past 3 seasons as opposed to being even lower so very grateful to him for that and absolutely been one of the best if not the best over the past 3 seasons.

Them or us? They seem to be doing alright without him.

He's a decent player who cares. He's here to stay anyway, he's got a 3 year deal. He's been our closest thing to consistency.

It's not a bad thing when you have dependable players in your team. Probably just before we acquired O'Dowda I mentioned that we needed more players akin to Don Cowie, who whilst not spectacular, would always give you a 7 out of 10 performance. This was at a time when Vaulks, Bacuna, Pack, Ojo etc were regulars.

So whilst O'Dowda has proved to be a successful signing, he is not the type of player to get the team to a higher level. Most definitely a Championship mid table player.

I personally wouldn’t have given him a new deal but he’s a great player to fill in and have on the bench. We still need a left back and left winger though.

He’s versatile as well, allowing us to make changes and just shifting him up or back. He’s committed to the cause, I’ve come to really like him.

He's one of our few technically gifted players. He doesn't give up possession as cheaply as others.
