Lampard first game as Coventry manager v us 30 Nov the 1 1 draw and the table then

After that game Coventry had 18 points from 18 games.

Cardiff had 17 points from 18 games.

Coventry had a controversial late penalty to get that draw and had we held on we'd have been on 19 and them 17.

However since then lampards Coventry have got 41 points from their 20 games and we have got 22 points from our 20.

Whilst you can't compare us with Coventry as they have been the exception this year- considering Coventry fans were actually angry Robbins had been sacked for lampard- it does make you wonder how easily the division can turn upside down with the right managerial appointment.

I wonder what the table would look like if riza was in charge of Coventry?

One obvious difference between Coventry and us is where the bookies and pundits had both teams finishing when predictions were beign made back in August. In effect, they got both teams right, as we were generally thought to be in for a season of struggle whereas Coventry were being tipped for a top two finish by some with the more general feeling being they could make the Play Offs.

You've got to give Lampard credit for what he has done, but it wasn't just Coventry fans who were sceptical about his apointment at the time - from memory, I don't recall many on here saying back in November that he'd turn Coventry around. I certainly didn't think much of the appointment and, in essence, all he's done is get Coventry playing to their potential. Could Riza have done the same? Probably not, but I would say that Coventry have enough quality to make them relatively easy to manage at this level, so maybe I'm wrong?

Conversely, what would it look like if Lampard had been with us instead? For all the debates, because he's done well at Coventry doesn't mean he'd do well here.

Coventry were in the playoffs just over 18 months ago and have had another two solid top half finishes. We've had 3 good months in 3 years.i don't know how Coventry had struggled early this season but I don't believe the two managerial jobs were comparable.

If you look back at the previous 2 or 3 seasons you might see that lampard has done the same miraculous job that Robbins himself did ie crap start to the season followed by heroic charge up the table. This is probably linked to Coventry cashing in on their star players at season end (hamer, ohare, gyokeres) and then the manager having to bed in new albeit expensive replacements. Hence Coventry fans being unhappy with Robbins sacking.

I've just been looking at the pre-season betting lists.

Coventry were generally priced to finished 7th. Cardiff were rated 21st by most bookies - something plenty of City fans scoffed at back in August.

The team they got most badly wrong was Luton, who were expected to finish 3rd behind Leeds and Burnley (Middlesbrough were tipped to finish 4th, West Brom 5th and Sheffield United 6th).

Sunderland (rated 11th) and Bristol City (rated 18th) are the two who look like they'll exceed expectations by the widest margins. Blackburn were rated 22nd and are currently 9th, but I expect them to drop away now and finish in the bottom half after the appointment of Ismael.
