    World Snooker Championships

The main event starts on Saturday, with the qualifying taking place this week.

Welshman Jackson Page today became the first player in history to get 2 maximum breaks in the same match. 147k in the bank already.

Was at the qualifiers today at the English institute of sport in Sheffield. Watched Jackson’s maximum. It was superb. He practically ran round the table. A rare bit of Welsh sporting quality - of the Welsh sport that i care about anyway!!

I have lived in Sheffield since 1983 and never been to the snooker. Going for the first time on Monday evening. No idea who we will be watching, but it is going to be good (and another item on our 70 things before we are 70 bucket list to cross off).

Jackson Page has lost his last qualifier to get to the Crucible. Matthew Stevens lost a last leg shoot out and Jamie Jones misses out to mark a disappointing day for 3 Welsh hopefuls.

I know Matthew Stevens isnt, but I assume the other two are from Cardiff to continue this golden period for sport in the capital.

Did you enjoy this? I went to watch some sport myself on Monday but it wasn't up to much. I did see Alex Higgins play once and enjoyed the 9-ball pool when it was in Cardiff but have never really had the urge to go and watch snooker again, even though I've always followed it. Feels like a sport better watched on tv but maybe I've got that wrong.
