QPR v Spurs just on, bit of a feisty scoreless draw but I was more drawn to the sidelines. Strange seeing Loftus Rd as it used to be. Not the rabbit hutch of nowadays but two decent size open ends. I was shocked first time we went back there after our visits in the early 70s stood on the open end to see how claustrophobic it had become due to its ‘upgrade’. Awful stadium in my opinion.
Not sure Paul, I remember a few visits there on that open end. Can you remember them playing at The White City Stadium? I vaguely remember their 2nd spell there in the early 60s. I reckon they should have stayed there, 90 odd thousand capacity, obviously with a bit of rejigging a la The Valley it could have been brought down capacity wise to something decent for them.
Weirdly wonderful, and of it’s time, fact was that a group game of the ‘66 World Cup was played at The White City due to Wembley refusing to postpone the greyhound racing. Imagine that nowadays.
I like Loftus Road and the feeling of being in that upper tier right on top of the pitch, the concourse area under that upper tier is a potential crushing tragedy waiting to happen though, nowhere near wide enough to allow for the flow of away fans, a good ground to visit imo, and usually a fiesty atmosphere..
I like Lotus Road. Been with City a couple of times and randomly with my Dad in the 90s where I remember being fascinated by all the planes landing at Heathrow!
The front of the upper tier is a bit scary tbh and it's all very confined, but it has a lot of character. Very little opportunity for expansion so goes hold them back I guess. Kind of ground that would benefit from a return to some terracing to boost it by a couple of thousand or so.
Bit before my time as far as QPR at White City is concerned, but you reminded me that one of the matches in the 1966 World Cup was played there.

That's interesting, I never knew that it was only used for that reason. I assumed White City was used on its own merits as a large London stadium.
Another interesting 1966 world cup stadium fact is that Sunderland temporarily seated their main home end for the tournament. I'm not entirely sure why they went to the bother of it as loads of the grounds had a huge amount of terracing, but I guess a minimum number of seats were needed.
