First thing to say is that I wouldn't have signed another keeper if I were manager. To my mind, Alnwick is good enough for this division and Turner looked good enough in the one game he played. However, three unbeaten games in, plus a pretty successful pre season programme, and it's clear that the BBM overhaul of the way we play is a very thorough one and so I'm not as surprised now that he wanted to bring in his own man as I was when it was first mooted.

As for Trott, no one can say how good a shot stopper he is because, for all that people like me moan about our defending, he's not had a serious save to make yet in the two matches he's played - he had no chance with the goal he conceded. The name Ryan Allsop came up in this thread, I was never much of a fan of his, but that was because I thought he wasn't great at shot stopping. As for his ability with the ball at his feet, I can. recall him getting caught out once or twice over what was close to a full season he played for us, but, from memory, that part of his game never cost us a goal. Therefore, if Trott turns out to be as good as Allsop with the ball at his feet and is a better shot stopper than him, I'll have no problem with him as our first choice through this season.

It was interesting to hear BBM say after the Swindon game that we didn't play it long to Salech enough after he came on - his reasoning was that, by doing that a few times, Swindon might have had second thoughts about committing so fully to a high pressing game in the second half. That sounds fair enough to me and hardly suggests that it is play it out from the back at all costs under BBM.
