As a lover of language (and indeed languages) I see both sides of the argument. My personal take on it is that I like to know the 'rules' but take delight in deliberately breaking them. For example, starting a sentence with 'And' (a heinous crime to Victorian grammarians) can have far more impact than merely using it as a conjunction in a sentence.
