The only way to be entered is to be a shithole in the first place.
(Nervously checks to see if Cardiff have ever been on the shortlist)
Are any of those places cultural?
Is the 'UK City of Culture' just the old 'Crap Towns' list rebranded?
Doubt if Sunderland will get it - too close to 'ull.
Glasgow got it fairly recently, as did Liverpool, so that probably rules out Paisley and Stoke.
Coventry surely has more to offer than Swansea- but that might tip the decision down west.
As said, the "award" seems to go to a shit-hole.
What is 'culture' anyway?!
Anything and everything.
There's also 'culture' in a Petri Dish. ;)
Christ alive, might aswell throw in Luton and call it shit towns 2017
They always choose dumps to be cities of culture as that is seen as a way of regenerating poor areas. Swansea is ripe for investment and that is why they have been nominated.
Can't consider 'City of Culture' without thinking of this fella ... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hlUUXz7ZScA
Wonder if someone like 'Barry Welsh' could do a Swansea version of this if they get it 😂
The only culture you find in Swansea is the type you'd expect to find in a petri dish.
Swansea and culture ffs? It must be one if the uks least multi cultural places for starters, losing out to Burnley maybe......
Gatehead got it about 25 years ago. Dump then, dump now. the comment about rejuvenatig areas is right I think, but history tells us it doesnt work!!
Stoke and Coventry 2 of the worst, uglisest and most depressing places I've ever visited. Can't imagine Sunderland or Paisley much better either! Not saying Swansea fits in well with them but is this like one of those awards they give out to the chubby kid at under 11's football for 'best improved' or 'best tryer'?
Does the Gower count as Swansea?
Think Cardiff went for this and lost out to some shity town. Cardff has gone all mega city since, so we don't need to apply anymore. It's the type of thing small towns like Swansea win
