He should have had a red.
Good to see him not letting himself get bullied, but he lost his head there, and wasn't 100% focused still when they got their second.
I think he would do well to control this in future or teams will look to provoke a reaction from him
Agreed. Also the challenge cost a good couple of minutes of time when Denmark were trying to run the clock down.
It was naive and I hope he learns from it rather than the reaction of his manager and crowd who seemed pleased he did it.
Nothing wrong with a bit of retribution, but it needs to be cleverer. That challenge wasn’t .
Don't even think the initial challenge was that bad just a bit late.
He has to cut this out of his game petulant.
It wasn't just a bit late, it was late and the opposition player must have known Ampadu would hit the deck. Ampadu's challenge could be a positive moment in the long run and while it was a risk in reacting, if Wales had drawn rather than lost then Ampadu's challenge would be seen in more positive light, it was a risk worth taking on the night just as long as he keeps on the "won't be bullied" side of things rather than "can be wound up" side.
If you're going to exact revenge go in proper hard and make sure you really hurt the fella otherwise you don't get any satisfaction.
Nothing wrong with the Ampadu tackle the Dane got what he deserved, for his tackle, and good on Giggs for having a go at Denmarks manager, this team is showing some spirit, long may it continue
What makes the challenge worse is Ampadu had just performed a skillfull maneuver to play the ball down the line, and he was off-balance.
As they pointed out in commentary, Joe Ralls was sent off for less recently.
How anyone could look at that photo above and say that is not a red card is beyond me.
The ref was at least partly responsible for what happened after for not dealing with the original incident properly. If the ref won't protect players and deal with things appropriately himself then it's inevitable players will seek to do it themselves.
Final point football is entertainment and to be enjoyed- it was a pretty poor game really- but ampadu nailing him the way he did was the highlight of the night for most of the crowd and anyone who was there won't forget it.
There was follow through with the arm as well.
