MM certainly had his favs, not sure Jon fitted into MM idea of the modern day athletic footballer
He gives a good insight to what the Chopra era dressing room was like
Good listen that.
Comes across a good bloke Parkin. 230 in 600 odd games ain’t too shabby either.
Check out his and Chris brown's podcast, most of them are available on YouTube, it's called undr the cosh. I think it's brilliant. Gives a really good insight into what it was like to be a footballer otside the premier League, hugely funny and at times, very sad. Check out the podcast with mark crosslet, you won't be disappointed.
From Wikipedia:
"He made his first-team debut at the age of 17 against Hartlepool United. He almost missed his debut as he had forgotten about the recent rule change increasing the number of substitutes from three to five: as he knew he would not be among the three substitutes likely to be used in the match, he took the afternoon off to eat fish and chips and have sex with a woman he knew"
Scored a brilliant goal on his City debut v Norwich.
Always thought he had a part to play but Malky never took him seriously.
He was never going to fit in with a Malky side, all about fitness and work rate etc. He was an out and out target man, needed someone alongside him, that's why jones brought him in, as cover for Bothroyd as jones loved his 442. He was quite proven at championship level and i bet he was cheap in comparison to others. He did alright at Preston and played around 25 league games during Stokes promotion to the Premier league.
One goal in eleven Championship appearances for City. Never played in the Championship again following a loan spell at Doncaster in 2011 (five games, no goals), having been sent there by Mackay. I don't know how the manager treated him, but Parkin was 30 when Malky arrived at Cardiff. He was already finished at Championship level.
