I wonder if places like Caerphilly and penarth and Marshfield will eventually be swallowed up into Cardiff proper. like llanishen and lisvane once were

Like Radyr and rhiwbina also, pentyrch and creigiau next. Think penarth is really just another suburb, apart from the river there is no gap between the city and the town
