Morison is ruthless. And outspoken. No doubt about that. But I think he's fair. If he sees a problem, he deals with it sooner rather than later. Why give a player 45 minutes if it's obviously not working? He seems very analytical and I get the feeling he takes time to explain to the players what he's thinking. He criticized Joel Bagen for not being bold enough going forward and got a MOM display from him. And gave him credit for it. I think Morison is the most exciting thing to happen to the City in some time. I also think that if he had a Welsh accent this forum's attitude toward him would be very different. He's saved our season. We're in playoff form. He's made the best loan signings I can remember. Let's give the guy some credit.

Actually over the last five games we’re in automatic promotion form, four wins and a defeat, just behind Fulham’s four wins and a draw. Pretty impressive by anyone’s standard albeit over a short period.

Yes absolutely spot on. Excellent post.

As Sol Bamba says there is the issue of player welfare here too. People can say they get paid good money but that doesn’t mean they are immune from issues and feelings of other young people their age.

His approach is on a very thin edge between motivating and bullying. He needs to be careful.

I don't think anyone is questioning the results over the short term

But ruthless to me is playing with fire. He may overstep the mark, be consistently ruthless without cause, he may unsettle too many who require a arm around the shoulder more than a shouting.

    Risky

Agree with all of that. But it doesn't make it clever to stick the boot in to a player he's already humiliated. I've no issue with the substitution itself, in fact it's good to see a manager unafraid to do that.

I think Craig Bellamy and Aaron Ramsey might just edge out these recent loans, possibly even Eddie Newton from Chelsea?
They are however very good loan signings and Morison should be rightly applauded for this

Re: Subs made a huge difference tonight

I don't mind the early sub, if you read back through the match thread the first half the doom merchants were in overdrive, we were not playing well, even if Coventry weren't making any clear cut chances.

Whatever the intended strategy was - it wasn't working.
Mick would have waited until the 70th minute to make his first change, by which time the game would have been done and dusted, so to have recognised it wasn't working and decisively made changes to address that has to be applauded.

You do wonder what the original strategy was - I've seen it speculated that we wanted a very mobile front line to aggressively press the opposition and win the ball back high up. Whether that's true or not is anyones guess.

It wasn't good to see Watters cutting a lonely figure after he was taken off though.
I think it's fine to dig people out occasionally, as it can yield good results. But if it is constant without the reassurance in between you'll end up with a Mourihnio situation where he undermines and victimises certain players and eventually loses the respect of the team and results drop off as a result.

Leon Barnett was hardly a spectacular loan signing, but he was just what we needed to get over the line in 12/13.

Bit of lecturey feel to the title of this article, but I think it’s a fair and balanced assessment.

Ramsey, O'Neil, Koumas, Bellamy etc are all great loan signings. Obviously. But none of them had the impact that Doughty, Drameh, Hugill, Ikpeazu, and Doyle are having en masse. He also brought back Wintle.

I trust Morison to build a team this summer. By hook or by crook. Can you say the same about any manager since Malky? And even he had money to spend.

Also an early tactical substitution highlights failure in the original line-up. He deserves as much criticism as he does praise. If people on here were even saying Watters isn't up to it, you have to wonder why he picked him in the first place!

I think there's a fair bit of recency bias in that, also they were often the only loan signings! Ramsey was brilliant when he came back, Koumas was an absolute joke and Bellamy was Bellamy. O'Neil and Inamoto were very good, shame Mandaric didn't let us buy O'Neil after Redknapp agreed. Koumas is the best loan signing though, that was the best single season from any City player in my lifetime.
