Thread: Wales squad

    Re: Wales squad

I’d give serious thought to leaving one or both of Bale and Ramsey and then probably pick them. Would also pick Connor Roberts (Ben Davies is more use at centreback these days) and Harry Wilson - think Johnson will be a sub.

    I'd go with this team:

    Wayne Hennessey
    -
Connor Roberts - Joe Rodon - Ben Davies - Neco Williams
    -
    Joe Allen - Ethan Ampadu
    -
Harry Wilson - Aaron Ramsey - Dan James
    -
    Gareth Bale

Still think Tom Lawrence is hugely hard done by

Brennan Johnson is already better than Harry Wilson IMO. Tom Lawrence has been out of favour since the car crash if I remember correctly?

I disagree, I have high hopes for Brennan Johnson, but Harry Wilson is a better player at this moment in time

Wouldn’t be surprised if this was the starting line up. Agree about Lawrence too.

Wilson sometimes drifts and doesn't always turn up. Johnson on the other hand is destined for big things, and I can see a Top 4/6 team coming in for him soon.

Johnson will have his time, I'm really excited about him. I just think Wilson's on fire at the moment and that along with his experience means he should start. If we're struggling then Johnson's a great one to bring on. You're probably right about Lawrence and the car crash, I wonder if that's permanent?

Lawrence has played several times since the car crash incident, he's just mostly not been good enough

I don't remember him being on the pitch recently.

not for about a year, probably not anything to do with the car accident though as he played several times since then.
until this season there weren't many calling for him to be recalled either, so I suspect it is mostly about form

Unfortunately he's got a few players in front of him who would have to miss out to accommodate him.

I'd have him in there over Harris

    In the WOL article:
Rabbi Matondo has been included following his impressive run of form with Cercle Brugge.
You make a good point. It should be a fair playing field. What is Bale's form at the moment?

I'm not sure if this is meant to be a gotcha or not but I'm not saying it should be a fair playing field across the board, just that Lawrence should be in the conversation because of his form.

95% of our players need to prove a lot more than Bale does to get in the squad, and quite right too. His form doesn't matter, the fact that he's not been playing doesn't matter, he's done more than enough in his career to justify his selection. Loosely suggesting that there should be the same approach towards Gareth Bale and Rabbi Matondo/Tom Lawrence is ridiculous

Williams most of all but I was taking Lawrence as a striker

I meant he hasn't been playing that much because of his poor form prior to this season l, for Wales and in the championship.
just seems this season is a bit of a one off.
that's just my impression though, I haven't checked his recent seasons that closely.
I agree he's a bit unlucky to have missed out

    Re: Wales squad

With the players available I would start
    Hennessy
    Mepham Rodon Davies
    Thomas Ampadu Allen N William
    Ramsey
    James Bale
    I like Sorba Thomas
Good going forward and back and he keeps the ball well plus plenty of pace.
The one big advantage we have over Austria is more pace going forward but they have more technical players.
Ampadu and Allen will have to screen the back 3 well to stop Austria intricate passing.
Bale will start as we have no other focal point without Moore.
Plus Bale and Ramsey usually create chances for each other as they are on the same wavelength picking out each others runs.
