Thread: Are we the most attractive prospect to buy of all the Championship sides?

Are we the most attractive prospect to buy of all the Championship sides?

If a big, rich, benefactor was looking to buy a new team, surely amongst the championship teams, we'd be a top 3 prospect?

    - Capital city
    - 1 City team (no rivals within 12 miles)
    - 2 million people in relatively close catchment area who have been starved of top football for decades
    - Welsh football and language on an upswing
    - Relatively new stadium + facilities

Bristol City would also be an attractive prospect, and Forest (2 Champions Leagues)

    I guess so.

Probably like going to a dogs home and choosing one.

A nice low maintenance one, house trained and ready to go.
An excitable one that needs a lot of attention.
A sad looking and quiet one needing a lot of loving.
A shabby one with a troubled upbringing, that pulls on the heart stings.

Agreed, a lot of debt compared to some and an ingrained ugly and boring playing style, for the first team anyway.

I can't imagine that the status of a capital city of a principality would carry much weight with potential foreign investors.

plus smaller core fanbase than several teams, and there are teams with a much better track record in youth development as well

Depends on the amount of investment someone is prepared to make, how much they can afford to risk, and if they want a decent return.
Plenty of League 1 and 2 teams that fit the bill better than us.

I suppose that hosting Wales games (and possibly hosting other group games in international tournaments) is attractive finance-wise though.

I wonder how much the club make from it? I bet it isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things.

you're right about capital city status, completely irrelevant in this context.

I don't think Newport County or the Welsh language would enter into anyones takeover plans

probably the least with our track record of being mugs

I guess it's like buying a house. You can buy one that's in good condition that you can move into straight away, or you can buy one that the estate agent described as "in need of some modernisation". Which one you go for depends to some extent on whether the second one is available at a budget price.

I would agree the fans would come for a successful Premier League team, (we have shed loads of glory hunters) and the Stadium is decent and extendable if it was a massive Investor.

No not with the Sala saga still hanging - unless of course VT makes them an offer they can't refuse.

I don't think the welsh language or capital city element helps much, although no doubt there is a degree of 'USP' about that.

Notwithstanding the general financial complexities which all clubs have and I don't really understand how they compare, I do agree we are generally a pretty attractive proposition. To the above, I would add:

1 - A stadium already holding 30,000+ that could be fairly easily and cheaply expanded

yes we are waiting for the CAS decision to whether he was a Cardiff player at the time of the accident, with potentially more litigation to follow depending on the outcome

That's bound to make it hard to sell and hard for Tan to accept an offer especially if he thinks we can win or claim some back from insurance or litigation.

The city aren't even the most attractive club to buy in Cardiff

Forest didn't win the Champions League.

European cup when it was full of national champions and defended it.

And these days teams that aren't 'Champions' win that competition.

Trying to be impartial here and I am really struggling to see why we would be attractive to an outside investor.

With, based on reports on here, a significant debt and accumulating losses we are off to a bad start.

Geographically we are out on a limb and can hardly point to a glorious trophy winning past to interest the ego of some rich person with a saviour complex.

Yes, we have a newish stadium but so do a fair few others and despite valid claims regarding our catchment area , historically our crowds are not the best and few would quibble with the support being called fickle.

What the club needs is a diehard City supporting billionaire looking to lose all his funds to p1ss off his much younger , soon to be ex wife.

Unfortunately, I just don’t know anyone who fits the description.
