"The eyes of the world are turning to Great Britain. We now have the moral leadership of the world, and before many years are over we shall have people coming here as to a modern Mecca, learning from us in the twentieth century as they learned from us in the seventeenth," said Mr Aneurin Bevan, Minister of Health, at a Labour rally in Manchester yesterday.
The meeting was called to celebrate the anniversary of Labour's accession to power. The Labour party, he said, would win the 1950 election because successful Toryism and an intelligent electorate were a contradiction in terms. His own experiences ensured that no amount of cajolery could eradicate from his heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. "So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin," he went on. "They condemned millions of people to semi-starvation. I warn you young men and women, do not listen to what they are saying, do not listen to the seductions of Lord Woolton. They have not changed, or if they have they are slightly worse."
The Government decided the issues in accordance with the best principles, he said: "The weak first; and the strong next." Mr. Churchill preferred a free-for-all, but what was Toryism except organised Spivvery?
As a result of controls, the well-to-do had not been able to build houses, but ordinary men and women were moving into their own homes. Progress could not be made without pain. People who campaigned against controls were conducting an immoral campaign. There was a kind of schizophrenia in the country, so that people reading newspapers and hearing talk in luxury hotels got an entirely different conception of what was happening, which did not square with the statistics. The bodies and spirits of the people were being built up - but the Government's efforts could not be sustained except by the energies and labour of the people. Production must be raised to make the new legislative reforms a living reality.
The Government never promised in 1945 that everybody was going to be better off. It knew some were worse off to-day, but it always intended they should be.
[Bevan's "vermin" remark - one of the most famous jibes in politics - was adroitly turned against the Attlee government by Tory speakers, who pretended it insulted their voters rather than policy makers. However, Bevan merely retorted that men of Celtic fire were needed to bring about great reforms like the new NHS. That was why, he explained, Welshmen were put in charge instead of "the bovine and phlegmatic Anglo-Saxons."]

I've asked this on this forum about 10 times and I can never get a straight answer.
What is the exact level of wealth someone should have before they can complain about inequality?
I've been told many times on here that I'm just jealous of the rich. I then said I'm doing alright financially and I get called a champagne socialist.
So what is the exact figure?
Its not about the actual wealth , its more about behaviours and hypocrisy of each individual , that is the big reason around the loss of support in the North of England as they look at the Metropolitan Elite socialists as a bunch you should stay away from ,including your self as a true socialist .
A lot are just upper class with lifestyles that are in conflict with their political beliefs .
A lot of educated , successful middle class people had parents who were working class
These very same people stick with their roots and are never going to vote for the Tories
"The highest level of education someone has achieved remains an important dividing line in how people vote. Labour did much better than the Conservatives amongst those who have a degree or higher, by 43% to 29%."
Taken from this analysis of the 2019 election;-

Your "champagne socialists" are more likely to be people who are among the more intelligent in the country and so have been able to get on, as, opposed to your typical tory who relies on contacts, inherited wealth and a private education which produces the sort of strange individuals you see in the current Cabinet (I'm not being entirely serious there).
Anyway, using your logic whereby people who are well off should not vote Labour, why should anyone who is working class vote Tory? How on earth could they relate to the Eton educated Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson in the last General Election?
Because he didnt belittle, condescend, tell them they were stupid or thick or try to reverse how they voted in a referendum. Also, things like the miminum wage have risen far more under Tories than Labour, which is an elephant in the room you should address. Labour, I would suggest have always been better on welfare. In terms of helping people into work, and retaining good jobs etc, that battleground is far more complex.
Basically the more knowledge people attain the more they distance themselves from the Tories. With the exception of many of those who are either lucky enough to have been born rich, or are fortunate enough that they were born with the right cards and have top paying jobs.
It's a bit similar to the course of religion (which Toryism is viewed upon by many). The more knowledge people attain the more they question their religious beliefs. With the chief exception in this case being those with top jobs in the clergy
Johnson on the working class.

The irony of Johnson pontificating about unmarried mothers is hilarious.
Who was belittling, condescending, telling them they were stupid or thick? No party would stand on such a platform, it’s just your opinion and mine is as worthwhile as yours. You always mention that about the minimum wage, yet the gap between richest and poor, the number of people in poverty and using food banks has risen in the last dozen years.
