I've always enjoyed Pick of the Pops but, as a dance music fan, used to get fed up when they'd have a chart from the 90s and skip over virtually all of the dance stuff, as it was seen as unsuitable for Radio 2 audiences of the time. I'm 45 and the early 90s was my era. I find those over 50 tend to prefer the 80s and don't like 90s dance (in particular).
Apparently the average age of the Radio 2 listener is 35. It's not uncommon to hear 90s dance stuff on Radio 2 now - even Steve Wright had a segment of his Friday afternoon show dedicated to it. I'm not a regular listener, but on the occasions when it goes on in the car, very little of Radio 2's music is pre 80s nowadays.
