Very likely, but he lasted 18 years, had a strong fan base and very good listening figures for a late night show. I think regardless of whoever hosts that slot they won't appeal to everyone. Across England, BBC local radio stations have stopped having regional shows late at night and have one generic show across the country. Lots of people in lots of areas are disappointed to lose their favourite presenters.
I never listened to him, he wasn't my cup of tea, but I can see why he had a good career in radio and was well loved by many.
