(Until I worked in Scotland I didn't realise that they had bank holidays which were not 'celebrated' in England and vice versa. It seemed to be the case that it was a matter of 'swings and roundabouts' but with my immediate bosses being based in Scotland and my overlords being based in England I made the best of both worlds).

Being an employee of the UK government I wouldn't be complaining about an extra day off, but I think I'd rather it not be an option after the final whistle on Sunday.
Sir Gareth has just about got it right . England were worthy winners last night , awarding the penalty was controversial , the way he buried it was not.

I was thinking this morning , when we got to the cup final against Liverpool , was anyone thinking we didn't play well in the second or third round.
I think most of us would've been surprised to find ourselves going past the second and third round. There was also the sense of just enjoying the ride. Not sure many England fans are of the same mentality.
If they win, what can you do? It's probably about time. Plenty of football fans are swaggering gobshites anyway so that won't make much difference. And some of our dopey fans will have to think of something else to sing at the English next season.
And if they don't win, they'll have an even bigger chance at the next one: home advantage, their best young players hitting their prime, probably an upgrade on Southgate. See, I'm preparing myself already. Jeez, what if they do two in a row?

Will fully admit to being very biased but I honestly doubt it. Watching it live I assumed VAR had spotted something in the buildup and was scratching my head with every replay they showed.

When I was younger, Id have been rooting for Spain, but after many yrs watching football behind me, I wouldnt be too bothered if England won.
The English media would be unbearable, but I have many English friendships Ive made over the yrs, through work, holidays and football. Most of them txt me good luck messages when we played Portugal in the semis.
As for the final itself, I ridiculed Southgate earlier in this thread, and although theyve reached the final, they have ridden their luck a fair bit in an easier side of the draw.
That said, they topped their group while other top sides didnt.
I feel that England are well capable of winning, if Southgate changed the habit of a lifetime, and played his more attacking team, including Shaw, Palmer, and Toney or Watkins, and went for a toe to toe slug fest with the Spanish.
I do feel though that hell be his usually cautious self, and lose out again.
With the Squad and draw hes had, that will be failure in my book.
Same for me , I have found the English hard to bear most of my life when it came to football.
After seeing the furore when Wales went far in the Euros I cant see much difference and get it, I guess . Scotland have never given me that journey .
It would be OK in my eyes if England win , Gareth Southgate will be hailed a hero after previously having had beer lashed on him by his own fans,

My son-in-law is English through and through, but wanted England to fail up to now because he wanted Southgate to get the boot.

I quite like Southgate - as a person if not a manager.
Most of the England squad are much more likeable than in the past.
I live in England and my partner is English as are most of my friends.
