Thread: RCT getting rid of bins, collecting black bags only from late September.

RCT getting rid of bins, collecting black bags only from late September.

I for one don't see the issue.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2gjjgdjeqo

It's working in the Rhondda and they are going to run it in all other areas.

People have to carry 3 bags out every 3 weeks, its gets rid of the smelly bins people leave out as well.

Guaranteed the ones that complain by me will be the selfish twaats that leave their bins blocking alleyways and pavements days after they've been emptied.

Concerns people have don't seem to be an issue where they're already doing this.

The narcissists will dig demand find something to moan about though, no doubt.

Been living in the Rhondda for nearly six and a half years and have always put bags out (recycling and black ones) in that time - the only container Ive had in that time is for the food waste bags. It can look a bit messy on my terraced street on collection day, but Ive never heard anyone complaining about it.

Well, a black bag / general waste collection every 3 weeks isn't great is it? And to only collect 3 black bags at the end of that 3 week period, I think that's pretty rough myself.

But waste collections are one of those things that really get people riled up aren't they. Upset at the 'lack of consultation' etc...

RCT has a pretty good recycling scheme in fairness. Some have been complaining about rats etc coming back, but the council have been active on social media to these complaints to point out that if people recycle food properly, there shouldn't be much, if anything to attract vermin. Pet litter and sanitary waste are two things that might be a problem, but the council aren't getting rid of wheelie bins, they can still be used to store black bag waste, just the bags are to be left out.

I've got a family of 3 and, between us, we often only fill one black bag every 3 weeks.

Good heavens....you are going to have to keep three smelly black bags for a few weeks....that is ridiculous...what if rats/pother animals etc open them? What if there is a minutia of food in there and maggots start appearing?

Here in rural France there are areas set aside for rubbish......black bags, recyclable.....glass.
The bins are fairly unobtrusive (see attached but black/yellow/bottle-labelled. Underneath these are huge storage bins that are lifted out and away at least once a week. Can be placed in any suitable spare ground.

    Works fine.

You have a food recycling bin for food.

Clear recycling bags for recycling, cans and containers to be rinsed out.

What exactly is there left to start off an infestation of maggots? You can keep your bin and store the bags in there until the collection day, at the moment people just leave them out on the front with the black bags already in them..the difference is they want them off the streets so you'd likely have to carry 3 dry bags around to the front every 3 weeks to be collected. The hardship.

Well I just mentioned it down the pub, and spoke to someone else on my walk home and people were definitely moaning.

The fact that it works up your way should be enough for it not to be a problem, but it most definitely will.

Most people still have wheelie bins and they can still store black bags in those.

Agreed it's more money for less services but there are reasons for this, the main one being the amount given out by Westminster. Council tax makes up way less than half of council income.

Ok for most, but Treforest will suffer, full of clueless foreigners who chuck anything out in the wrong bags….will become rat heaven

There won’t be any collections in 5 years.

Lazy arse students will be a problem but it should work okay for other areas if they recycle properly

Same as the Vale, its a pain.

We also have to pay on top for Garden waste even though out of the last 5 collections they have been late 3 times and didnt turn up another. Appalling.

We put out 5 different bins, quite enjoy it, do feel for the single elderly folk in our street some of whom are well in their 90''s they struggle as the council no longer offer assistance for them ( I've become a waste helper/ advisor.) I

I t's a pity Welsh Labour can't see past green targets and graphs and seek a solution for those who struggle with the new age of waste collections.

It did start off well with orange stickers applied to bins for those who could not freely move their rubbish up an down paths, and bin teams would carry out that task. Now it's a case of feck em.

Caring WAG / Labour my arse.

Rats, increased seagull attacks with some human deaths, riots, plagues, rubbish fires, increased council tax.

Oh and 75 new AM's added to WAG to monitor their successful green targets, graphs and positive media spin as to how green Wales is...

what is the issue with wheelie bins ? ? I cant see any downside, you can put 2 weeks rubbish in them, the bin men/woman wheel the bin upto the truck and it empties it

From what I've read, in some narrow streets, having wheelie bins outside can cause problems for people trying to navigate pavements. That's particularly awkward for prams, disabled people. I can't see how using bin bags will make that any better.

I am about to take the dog for a walk, I'll walk to the top of the street and then down the hill, on my way down, between two terraced streets is an alleyway between the two streets. People wheel their bins to the top Thursday evening, they don't take them back down once the council have done their collection though..they block the pavement. I threw 3 of them back down the alley a few weeks ago, this was after a few times of nicely moving them into the alley to stop the pavement from being blocked for people walking. It is a busy route people use for school and the local shop. There are about 6/7 bins that just congregate at then top of the alley.

They'll be put out the night/morning before and won't hog the space 7 days a week like some peoples bins do?

Ah right. I'd read it that wheelie bins could still be used to store black bags but, from what you say, not on pavements any more. That makes more sense. There are lots of streets around me with narrow pavements that would benefit from this.
