When we gained 14 points from 6 games (P6, W4, D2, L0) I guess a lot of people, me included, were ready to hand Riza the job. But the games v Luton and now Blackburn show him in a different light. How can he get it all so right, then all so wrong? How can a team be so good, and then so poor? His choice to play Willock and El Ghazi may have been limited by the number of players he had available, but on the face of it, ANYONE might have done a better job than those two, over the two games.
I’m ok with that. On another day it could have been us that took our chances and them that missed a few.
That’s football for you.
At least we gave it a go which at the start of the season you couldn’t say often.
No need to panic.
I seem to be in the minority though.
Thought Willock had a go in the second half. El Ghazi put in his usual non performance but I'm not sure we offered much more of a goalscoring threat once he went off.
That was a bit deflating and I'm not sure how much of the last 2 performances is down to the manager or the players simply not being good enough.
It’s no big deal. As I said in midweek, I think the quality of a couple of the recent victories has been exaggerated. However, if City continue to try to play the right way, we’ll be alright.
The manager situation is a conundrum. But as long as they don’t bring Bulut back or make a truly disastrous appointment, I don’t think it will make too much difference to this season.
You can't blame the manager for the options he has up front.
Maybe the completely pointless picking of Kanga on the bench.
We badly need other options. Even Etete will help until January.
Did the Trust ever ask why we bought a striker when resources are limited and we splashed the cash on a striker for Tan's Belgian club.?
well I agree with you Cal, the intent is there, the structure and shape is sound, the effort is largely there, the natural/technical ability is lacking in a few players and we're really missing a threat up front, I think that in itself is the main problem.
regardless, this is at least watchable and at times pretty exciting, that is a huge improvement on Bulutball..
I don't think he should necessarily be hired after a few games or ruled out. As a club we should be able to have more about our recruitment of managers than auditions.
I think overall he has done very very well. Even in defeat it's more entertaining than recent years. Disappointing today, defensively we were very poor and not much better elsewhere but at least we have some sort of method on how we try to play and attack.
It's a "yes" for me. I'd hate us to end up with someone like Bilic. We desperately need a decent striker. We weren't that bad today and a good striker might well have put the ball in the back of the net when we were going all out for an equaliser at 2-1 down. I don't even think Robins could get us much higher up the league without a decent 15 goals (at least) striker. Time to put Reindorf on the bench and bring him on instead of Meite and Kanga. Both offer SWFA. Also El Ghazi has proved he isn't up to much either. Put Bagan in defence and move O'Dowda forward.
Interesting that you should single out the Trust asking that question and not the Supporters Club who have twice as many reps on the FAB as the Trust. The Disabled Supporters Group could have asked that question as well.
I suppose it didn't need asking at the time because we had already signed a brilliant striker on loan from Hertha Berlin.![]()
I'm pretty much of the same opinion.
I will add that Riza has said the type of football he wants to play and, fair play to him, he seems to be determined to live or die by that philosophy.
If I look back on the other, recent "temporary/interim" managers, they came in and delivered the same dirge as the previous manager, gaining important points by employing tactics that were just battling wars of attrition, especially against those teams in and around us at the time. At least with Riza, it can be argued, that we were in a worst position, but the wins were not dirge and were delivered in an entertaining way.
Can we really say that the last two defeats are down to Riza and the tactics? I look at it as if it is down to not having a decent front man. The first half proved this, there was no central focus. When Meite came on, we did improve because, although limited, he does have experience as a striker and he was a focal outlet in that second half... now just imagine if we had a decent striker in that role. I said to my Grandson today that Blackburn gave a perfect away performance... Got the lead, wasted time, got the crowd frustrated, and caught us on the counter attack, albeit with better finishing than we ever looked like achieving.
I wouldn't want to see the same old boring safe manager brought in just for the sake of playing turgid football to keep us in the Championship. As others in this thread have said, if we continue to play this way it will be unlikely that we will go down.
That being said, if there is no one else available, then I say keep with Riza for the foreseeable future. If things go Bulit shaped or there is a proper manager available, then review the situation, until then, I am currently happy as we are.
Thought we were poor first half today but much better second half, just clearly lacking a striker so that combined with a poor day for Daland and Ng cost us.
Would like to see us a bit more on the front foot in away games under him
P4 D2 L2 GF 2
Under him away from home at the moment
It's a yes for me. I think he's handled himself well on and off the pitch. His analysis is good, I have no doubts we would stay up this year and build for the long term in the right way.
I quite liked some of Riza's football but:
0. It's becoming apparent we shouldn't get carried away with wins over the relatively poor 'mouths and 'wall, and, somewhat fortuitously against Norwich.
1. I think he's showing he lacks in-game tactical nous.
2. I think we should have a leader who has the experience to turn the CCFC supertanker around over the LR so we recruit and nurture way more effectively.
I'm tempted by Robins who has both of 1 and 2.
Yes , definitely
He's got a good tune out of this squad
I think it's desperately clear that Robinson apart , the forward he has used are simply not up to this level
I don't see what a change of manager is going to bring .....apart from 🤔......we need a striker here
New manager rips things up , start again , more moaning if we lose a few after a good start
That simply isn't the answer
