Thread: El Ghazi

    El Ghazi

El Ghazi hasn't even made it onto the bench for the last two games. Is he injured or has he been dropped?

Unlikely I suppose, but if the club could somehow get him off the wage bill in January it would seem like a sensible move. His signing hasn't worked out at all. Very disappointing.

I seem to remember him being a game changer a few years ago, did nothing in games and then either scored or created an assist from nowhere.

I thought he was going to be a great signing for us once he got back to match fitness, sadly there’s been little evidence of that happening and despite everyone else in our group saying he wasn’t up to it, I still argued that he’s going to come good.

After the Oxford game I held my hands up and said I got that one totally wrong.

If the club could move him on in January it would be best for all concerned

I’m not sure if there’s really any evidence he wasn’t match fit for any length of time, reckon he knows he’s getting a bonus pay check here and can’t be arsed putting the effort in.

Plenty of players don’t play regularly for whatever reason, don’t have a full preseason and then don’t take 3 months to get back to match fitness.

    Re: El Ghazi

    Injured apparently.

He’s been so disappointing, that final pass or shot never seems to come off, for a long while though we looked better with him than without him.

    Re: El Ghazi

He must know that this move isn't working for him. He has shown his fitness so if he can get another club I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave in the next few weeks. If he gets paid for Jan and negotiates for Feb then he only loses 3 months from us.

I believe we heavily incentivise contracts, so there'll be no playoff or promotion bonus for him

    Re: El Ghazi

He is our joint third highest goal scorer this season with two goals!

    Re: El Ghazi

He's a player now past his best, who we took a chance on, hoping that showing at least some of his earlier success would be enough. Sadly, it seems that's not the case. He's only on contract for a year, so if we do hold on to him for the rest of the season, it's not like he's a long term drain on the finances. Personally, I don't think he's 100% fit - he's only 29, and should have a few years left in him yet. Maybe he'll come good, but I wish he'd hurry up about it.

I had reservations about him after reading about his time at Mainz. For once my instincts seem to have been proved correct. I agree with the OP that if we can off load him we should. However, I suspect that is not going to be easy.

    Re: El Ghazi

Play him as a false 5, working out well for Chambers

    Re: El Ghazi

    Not worked out.

    Was worth a gamble.

I think he just looks shot confidence wise. Seems to have no belief in himself when he gets the ball. Previously has shown he has ability at this level.

Perhaps threads like this will inspire him to show us what for like Meite.

Genuinely disappointed at this, I was really rooting for him

same, he obviously had ability. Looks to me like he's had enough of football.

No chance of any other clubs taking him after what happened at Oxford!

    Re: El Ghazi

From what I can gather he’s very well paid here so probably here for the season.

I wouldn’t write him off completely.

If we are to get out of this mess we need to write off the likes of El Ghazi. He’s just not worth persevering with.

Disagree, I’m not saying he should be starting but we have so few options in the wide areas he should be on the bench, he’s one of our biggest earners so doubt he’s going anywhere and doubt we will be spending much in January. We have to hope he can step it up and make an impact as a sub. The other options are hardly impressive.

I'd still rather see him come on than Meite.

    Re: El Ghazi

I wonder if all those months in a dispute have changed his perspective on football?

Given his pedigree and those circumstances I thought he’d be hungry, eager to contribute, and desperate to get back into top-flight football.

No evidence of that at all.

I don’t think Meite would have shit out of that challenge at Oxford…

He definitely would not have. Hope we get rid of El Ghazi this month. A poor professional.

He wouldn't have. He'd have just been a second late and bundled into the keeper.

Meite didn't sh*t out of a challenge later on against Coventry. He's nowhere near the player he was, but he's not a lazy, spineless waste of money like El Ghazi. 17 games and he's never got out of 1st gear..
