Thread: Unbeaten throughout January. Who saw that coming?

Unbeaten throughout January. Who saw that coming?

Six league games without defeat, a cup win, last minute goals, points on the road, smashing the Jacks, pissing off the snowflakes.

    All feels pretty good.

Into February - with Leeds, Pompey and Argyle away - it's shaping up to be quite exciting for a struggling season. A cheeky cup win at Stoke would be nice if we could pull it off.

Not me, I was expecting a sacking, a new (probably rubbish) manager and the general negative grief fest that comes with it.

The bad news is that I broke dry January in the Grange after the Swansea match!

I like ‘haven’t lost a game all year’.

In December I remember Riza mentioning we need 2 players to get things right. Sounded a bit desperate at the time but fair play he caught us all out

Not me - credit to Riza and the players

3 nil down at Oxford on boxing day I thought our race was run.
I couldn't forsee this run of form.
Not taking anything away from Riza but what does everyone think Richard Shaws effect has been on that run of form ?

    It’s a no from me!

Can’t say I’m a big fan of Riza, he gets it wrong occasionally but the positives are outweighing the negatives. He seems to be endearing himself to fans through many different events. If he keeps this going and learns and adapts on the way, he could be here a long time.

Still plenty to do though and no place for complacency looking at the table.

So cautious grounds for optimism but nothing more for me.

    Credit where credit is due.
The problem is that we've seen it all before. Didn't City have a good run of results last season around this time and then it all tailed off.
Also, other clubs have had and can have a similar sequence - seems to be a feature in this division and only two back-to-back wins can shoot them up the table.

Indeed, Salech has looked useful in the short time he has been on the pitch. I wonder how he will compare with Salvesen , the striker Derby just signed, by the end of the season. He looked pretty useful on Saturday too

Not sure how much Derby paid for their Scandinavian striker in comparison to ours?

supposedly about Ł1m ISH for Salvesen.
the difference being he's 28 already so limited opportunity to make any profit on that.

    Yes both looked good.

Robinson has made the main difference, we've needed a Striker and it just shows how much better we look when we have one, playing with confidence, always a threat, and taking his chances, we now have Salech as well who looks a right handful.

I think having Salech, Robinson and a fully fit and committed El Ghazi who can all play off each other might make a huge difference.

I think he's made a difference, I don't think we should underestimate the "feedback" the players got from the away fans at that game either. There's been a noticeable difference in application from that game onwards, it's likely to be a number of factors combined and Shaw may have been behind switching Chambers into midfield which I think has also been a big catalyst.
