While Saturday’s result won’t define the season, it shouldn’t be regarded as in any way insignificant either. After all, the facts are that it was Cardiff City’s heaviest defeat since May 1966 and Leeds United’s biggest victory since March 1972. Considering some of the dreadful sides City have fielded during the intervening years and some of the powerful teams Leeds have had at their disposal during that time, the magnitude of this defeat shouldn’t be underestimated.
Hopefully, the manager, his staff and his players are ashamed of what happened at Elland Road and will do everything within their powers to ensure nothing similar happens again. This squad has a soft underbelly that has been exposed on several occasions this season. Saturday’s woeful performance should be a reality check for everyone involved, and also for any fans who were beginning to believe the current side is better than it actually is.
