They're both developing and haven't reached their full potential. I think it would be unfair at this early stage of their careers to put them under a microscope. Besides, we really don't know enough at this moment to give an honest appraisal of either player.

He will stand out so much though. You can't miss him in size and a very unusual player. Within a few touches he will get people asking who he is if they didn't already know. No surprise he's the only opposition fans always mention. It's normally how threatening he "looks" as opposed to what he's actually done though.

It is very hard for linesmen to be fair. Was clearly some players offside today but took a few checks to see which one who finished it and where he was. Was actually really good officiating.

Its the first time I've seen him play and I was very impressed. Magnetic close control, brave in possession and very strong for someone so slight.

The build up is so slowww . Colwill is the only player trying to inject some pace into the play. Everything is so slow then all of a sudden Colwill gets the ball then it's 100 mile an hour, if the other players had the same urgency we might win a few more games.

I don't really want to get into a big debate about this because it's not really important at all (I'm sure you feel the same) , but I think that making a passing comment about how I think (obviously from what I've seen) that Ashford is a better player isn't really putting anybody under a microscope, and comparing two young players to each other isn't the end of the world so I don't really see why someone would say it's unfair and shouldn't be done. It really doesn't matter

Some decent performances in there to take us forward. Mannsverk, Bagan, Ng, Salach, Alves, not to mention excellent cameos by Ramsey and Ashford.

Hopefully Robertson and Chambers back next week so suddenly mf looking strong. We will.need everyone fit over the coming weeks.
On the flipside, Willock and to a lesser extent ElGhazi not contributing. Robinson having poor run as well after signing new contract. Still think we could do with a goalie. Alnwick's distribution awful today.

I hesitate to bring Colwill up again, but he was discussed on whatever Call Rob is called now last night. First, the presenter said that he is the most discussed player on the Feast of Football podcast which he also presents and, second, he was discussed by Ian Walsh and Jason Perry who agreed with a City fan caller who asked what does Colwill do? Both of the former pros queried how and where you fit him into a team and were United in saying his goal and assist output is too low. I believe that’s a fair criticism that was easy to make after a game in which he had so many touches without any sort of meaningful product, but it was a strange, untypical performance from him yesterday as he doesn’t usually try to retain possession that long. For me, it was the sort of performance which gets his supporters questioning what he has to do to get more recognition, while also giving his critics more of why they feel like they do - the description “enigma” has seldom seemed more appropriate!

Personally I think he has things to work on as above to improve, however I wonder if he did have a purple patch, how long would he be with us before being snapped up?

I hate it when naturally gifted players are over coached, but you wonder with Colwill if we had better coaches working with him, and was managed properly, how much he would really improve?

21/22 was Rubin's first as anything like a regular in the first team and he scored an encouraging 5 (all scored away from home) league goals in 34 appearances, plus 1 (at Anfield) in four Cup ties and a goal in one of his three appearances for Wales, making 7 scored in 41 appearances over all - those are very promising figures for any teenager in the modern Championship. Since then though, something really strange has happened regarding his goalscoring. 22/23 was the season when he was most affected with his "growing pains" and this may partially account for for him not scoring a single goal in 20 league appearances and a couple in.the Cups
.
However, in a total of 66 league ghames in 23/24 and 24/25, Colwill's scored just twice (against the wurzels last season and Plymouth this), yet, remarkably, his 7 cup appearances in that time have seen him score 6 times, so it's more true to say that Colwill hasn't scored enough goals in league games (he's not scored in an away league game since that free kick at QPR on 5/3/22).

It should be said that many of his league appearances since 21/22 have been as a substitute, but the huge difference between his league goalscoring and in Cup competitions point to two possible and partial reasons for the disparity. First, Cup games are less intense than league ones and this leads into the second point that Colwill may be less relaxed in league games, many of which have been played with City under a very real threat of relegation.Whatever the truth in that, anyone who was nor familiar with Colwill's scoring record would think it absurd that he's only scored twice in getting close to a hundred league games if they watched his run and shot from twenty odd yards which flew just wide, because that was probably the most thrilling passage of play of the game - tellingly, he played that move "off the cuff" and trusted his talent. .

Jason Perry stated more than once on yesterday's phone in that Colwill does not have the pace to play at number ten. I'm not sure that pace is a neccesity in thaty position though is it? Alex Robertson, who both Walsh and Perry said was a better option in that position for City, is hardly a flying machine after all. It's certainly true that Colwill is not one for making a lot of runs beyond our striker and, perhaps, with that striker tending to be Callum Robinson, who always wants to drop deep and join in with build up play, the need for a number ten making those runs becomes greater.

I've been a big Colwill fan since I first saw him play around eight years ago it must be now, but you cannot just ignore that lack of an end product from him and watching him yesterday, he put in so much for so little return. Perhaps better caoching and an effective motivator who could get him feeling more positive and decisive could make a difference, but who knows for sure?

I'm no coach but one thing that seems obvious is he's far more effective with the ball in front of him as oppposed to receiving it further up the pitch. Folk are obsessed with this 'no10' role - I'd just play him in midfield..
