Discriminatory behaviour? Interesting.
Richard Dawson appointed interim head coach until the end of the season

I bet Wilf Wooler is turning in his grave!
Interesting article on it by Michael Atherton here: https://www.thetimes.com/sport/crick...rton-t0506qst2 (Non-paywall version here: https://archive.ph/ercSr)
I don't know the ins and outs of the relationship but surely Glamorgan would benefit from any financial growth and success that Welsh Fire have, and the owners seem very bullish about that. Although he does acknowledge some of the big barriers to Glamorgan's long-term success.
On a side note, I'd be tempted to watch a few more Welsh Fire games if they could attract the likes of Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, and Rachin Ravindra.
,
Thanks for posting that, it gives me a better understanding of what's involved and makes me feel a bit better about the half sale - I'm glad we're still nothing to do with the IPL.
I'm not sure cricket has ever been that big in Wales or that it ever will be, but there is talent in Wales and I've always thought that the absence of Glamorgan players from England teams in the last twenty years has as much to do with the selectors seemingly getting lost on the rare occasions they cross the Severn Bridge. Forget about senior England sides, Glamorgan players don't even get picked for things like England A teams - I'm convinced that, somewhere along the way, someone like Kiran Carlson would have got picked for at least one England A tour if he played for any other county.
This deal only widens what was already a pretty large gap between Glamorgan and Gloucestershire and Somerset when it comes to the whole One Hundred franchise team for the area and, if I were a supporter of one of those sides, I'd feel even less inclined to class the Welsh Fire as "my team".
His response to that was interesting: "It’s called Welsh Fire and we own 50-odd per cent of it, so that ship has sailed a little bit. All the non-hosts have been very well compensated and have a carried interest in future sales as well."
That said, if the Hundred really does grow in the way its stakeholders seem to think it will, I wouldn't be surprised if more "franchises" are added later.

Chris Woakes has signed for Welsh Fire
I'm actually amazed that the Welsh fire franchise is deemed to be worth 80m
If that is true it really is amazing.
I might well be in the minority here but the "Welsh Fire" playing cricket leaves me cold.
I suppose we get to see some world class cricketers perform for "our" team but isn't it all about the razzmataz and money?
The youngsters may well buy into it and that's probably the target audience but to me, well it's just not cricket.
Ex city player Ryan Nicholls son signs for Glamorgan. https://glamorgancricket.com/news/gl...-a-rookie-deal
Think you pretty much answered your own question.
If it gets the next generation interested in cricket - regardless of the format - then it's a good (or at least necessary) thing in my view.
Same with T20. The purists might not like it, but without it (and the money it brings in), the domestic four-day game would die a death.
My answer to the question posed by this piece is yes, I’d have kicked India out of the tournament - that’s what would have happened to any other country that refused to play n Pakistan.

It's a difficult one. Happens quite a bit when a sport becomes reliant on a team or individual and the rules start getting changed or relaxed to accommodate them. Ronnie O'Sullivan and Lance Armstrong spring to mind but there can't be many sports that haven't been held to ransom by their big hitters at some point. The cricket authorities must realise the situation is starting to get out of hand but they'll be wary of killing the goose that lays the golden egg too.
Glenn Phillips' catch in that link was absolutely stunning by the way. Incredible.
I read that with interest as well... I guess the next question is would you have been OK with the potential 80% loss of revenue that would have resulted that the article suggests? It's hard not to see a future where India becomes the dominant nation at every level but especially the short forms of the game given the economic and population figures at play.
Im not sure why people get uptight about hordes of youngsters and 15-25 year old male/females packing out a ground that sees 150 as a good crowd in the 4 day game. Im just as comfortable watching a 4 dayer as T20/100 and it doesnt take too much brain power to see it as just another cricket occasion.
Seems that Glamorgan will receive around 20m from the Welsh Fire deal: https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/articles/c78ey90876jo
Shoaib Bashir signs for the first 3 games of the season as Mason Crane is out.

Dunno what it's like in Cardiff, but we've got the first rainy morning in weeks up here to greet the new cricket season. Glamorgan start their four day game programme at home to Leicestershire today and the game will be streamed on You Tube as usual.
I watched two podcasts previewing Div 1 and 2 of the County Championship this week and Glamorgan did not even merit a mention in either of them, while the Guardian tipped us to finish seventh out of eight in their forecast for Div 2. I've no expectation of promotion or anything like that this year, I just hope for some pitches which provide an equal balance between bat and ball, rather than the boring run fests which have become the norm since games started being streamed - I'm not holding my breath mind.
