They're doing great currently and it's good news for the club and their town. Merthyr needs a decent football club and their fans have done great work in the past to keep them going. Also as a 'trust/fan owned' club, the owners are entitled to chase any dream they want.
A regular up there tells me they had 1500 in the ground yesterday which again is great news, problem being when they don't do so great that'll drop quire quickly.
In the 90s when they had decent crowds and a cash injection they didn't make the league, they couldn't sustain the costs I believe. They're not in the position to make a push for league unless someone puts money in and no one dould fo that if they don't have control of the club.
Interestingly, Wrexham were fan owned and were piissing in the sink until Rob and Deadpools millions dold them the 'dream'.
