I’m trying to recall which skittles were called the policemen? Was it the front one, or the 2 behind the front one?
Were the two behind the front pin called coppers ❓

Not quite sure. I do know where the oldest skittle alley in Cardiff is though. Any ideas without googling ?

Great question, there’s so many gone now, sadly. Is it The Birchgrove?

No, not the Birchgrove. I worded the question wrong as the pub no longer has a skittle alley, but it was the first to have one.

I played out of the Rompney Castle when younger, the last team i played for was a team who played in the Croft in Roath.

Well, the bar is extremely low. Look at Birmingham and several other councils which have become bankrupt whilst being run by so called people who were supposed to know what they were doing

Is the pub still open and has it still got it’s original name?

No. I’ll give you a clue. One of the name changes it’s had contained a colour.

The skittle alley opened in 1895. Wonder how much the Sticker upper got in those days?

I’ve never heard of a bolter (must be a local term), maybe it’s a duck or through ball. We don’t pay for a bolter whatever it is!

I’ve played skittles for 50 years (except the 3 years when I lived abroad). 44 years for the same team until they folded due to Covid. All 4 of my boys have stuck up & played over the years. They didn’t get the Ł15 the stickers get now (plus free drinks & snacks)

Another good question. If it was a farthing a man from the home team, couldn’t be less than a farthing, it would be 3d. If he did 5 games a week, he’d be on 1/3.
