I always though that Sio was given a bit of a hard time by some fans whilst was he was here but the unfunny blokes on View From The Ninian said that we only picked up 13 points (it is actually 10 as I checked) after he left on Jan 31st.
I’m not for one moment suggesting that he would have kept us up, but unlike players mentioned in the ‘Make zero impression’ thread elsewhere, at least he contributed and often quite well, so I thought, unlike so many other players (e.g. Turnbull etc)
Siopis started 16 league games this season. City won 2 of the 16.
We went down because we couldn't defend, were painfully slow and couldn't create chances for our strikers. Sio didn't address any of those concerns.
It’s ironic you suggest he was under-rated by some of our fans. I thought he was hugely over-rated. Genuinely could not see what he positively added to the team.
He’ll be playing Champions League football next season. Let’s see how he gets on there.
If we’re going to have a discussion about a ball winning midfielder we shouldn’t have let go, there’s a thread about Ebou Adams already - his stats for last season were far better than Siopis’.
No, you've compared a Greek International at Panathinaikos with a Derby almost-relegated run-of-the-mill midfielder. Siopis did ten times more for us than Adams did, apart from time on the physio table.
Yes, I said he had an easy life here, just training and getting himself fit. Rambo has had a similar year, but with more games, and he managed us for a bit.
I didn't say he was enjoying it, or that it's better than playing, I merely said it's nice work if you can get it.
in the Championship games he actually played for us, Adams made an average of 4.71 tackles per game and won 3.53 per game
For us Siopis attempted 2.96 tackles per game and won 1.48 tackles per game.
Siopis is probably better at passing, but at the thing that they're both in the side to do, Adams is consistently more prolific and effective than Siopis, over many seasons actually.
People judge Adams for us on a handful of games he played after being out injured for a year and at a higher level than he had ever played previously, and even in that time he did more than Siopis.
Sio seems like a great character, and clearly does well in Greece, but didn't have the physicality for the championship in my opinion
Your last sentence makes no sense. Adams’ near year out injured was a subject you returned to time and again, your intention was clear and this season Adams has made you look a bit stupid. What good did Siopis playing in a Greek win at Wembley do us? He was struggling for starts in a team that would finish bottom of the table. He couldn’t improve us, but Adams, based on his tackles won figures, not to mention his six goals from central midfield, could have given us qualities we were seriously short of.
Was it part of last season where Siopis looked alright. I can't remember if i'm making even that up.
I don't think he'd have done any worse that what we did have to end the season with but I can't believe he would have improved anything. It got to the point where he just looked like one of the players had brought their son along to make up the numbers.
You can clearly be a diminutive figure in midfield and have influence on the match, even in a defensive role. Siopis however just couldn't, particularly this season.
I do think he's probably a better player than that given he does still get in the Greek team and similar to Goutas performances seem to have waned following the dismissal of Bulut.
We had Rizo, he made good players look bad and bad players look terrible. Siopis was in a side that finished top half, Adams played for a bottom-of-the-league type team, but at the end with a decent Manager that kept him and them up.
If you think Adams is the answer, you are deluded. He was bombed straight out as he was a very limited player, who's just had one not too bad season.
I would imagine that Derby fans have a very different opinion on Adams ability than Cardiff fans
their player of the season and the defensive stats he's posted this season are not just the highest this season, but head and shoulders clear of anyone else, and higher than in any previous season on record. he was producing double the numbers of tackles than the nearest Cardiff midfielder for instance, he's had a very good season doing just the things that we should have been better at if we wanted to fight our way out of a relegation battle.
All I’m saying is that I would have picked Adams over Siopis any day of the week in the season just ended.
You really need to see somebody about those blind spots of yours - just blame the manager if it’s a player you’re defending
I wish we’d been a “bottom of the league type team” instead of the genuine article!
One of these players made 42 starts for the side that finished 19th in the Championship table, scoring 6 goals in the process. The other made 16 starts for the side that finished rock bottom of the Championship table, scoring 0 goals in the process.
One of these players started 13 Championship matches that were won by his team during 2024/25. The other started just 2 Championship matches that were won by his team during 2024/25.
One of these players was the fans and players’ player of the year at his club this season, and that club avoided relegation to League One. The other wasn’t, and his club didn’t.
Can you guess which one is which?
