A manager offer and a retained list - what's happening today?!
https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news...-retained-list
Cardiff City FC can confirm the retained list for the 2024/25 season.
FIRST TEAM
Aaron Ramsey will leave the Bluebirds this summer. The Welsh captain rejoined his childhood Club during the summer of 2023, before taking up the role of caretaker manager for the final three games of the 2024/25 campaign. Aaron departs Cardiff City Stadium with our best wishes.
Club captain Joe Ralls and Andy Rinomhota remain in discussions with the Club at this time.
Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas and Yakou Méďté will depart at the conclusion of their agreements on June 30th, 2025.
U21
The Club have activated extended contract options on Josh Beecher, Jake Dennis, Trey George, Ewan Griffiths, Luke Pearce, Michael Reindorf, Will Spiers and Morgan Wigley. A contract offer has also been made to Isaac Jefferies.
Young professionals Freddie Cook, Cole Fleming, Adeteye Gbadehan, Baylin Johnson and Joseph Thomas will depart.
Professional contract offers have been made to graduating apprentices Jake Davies, Alyas Debono, Daniel Ola and Jac Thomas.
Joseff Edwards, Corey Foggarty, Osian Rees and Lennon Talbot will now leave the Club following the completion of their apprenticeships.
We’d like to thank all of the leaving players for their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future.

Thanks ccfc.
Although I’ve heard and read that Ramsey’s actual salary was nowhere near some of the figures bandied about on social media, his leaving has to mean a big saving on the wage bill as will El Ghazi who, sadly, turned out to be a bit of a waste of space. Glad to see Rinomhota could be staying and I’m guessing any deal Ralls signs will see a big reduction on his last contract.
Of the younger players, I’m a bit surprised to see Freddie Cook leave and can’t help thinking with hindsight that loaning Conte to Woking did him no favours at all.
Glad Rinomhota and Ralls are probably staying.
A little sad to see Conte go, got to see him live vs Southampton and he was ace. But overall, some rare good decision being made here.
Alyas Debono is one to watch out for in the future, solid defensive prospect.
If we assumed the senior players listed were on 20k a week average (which could be wildly out in either direction) that that would be a million quid each off the overall wage bill. So maybe 5-6 million reduction overall.
The reduction in income due to being in league 1 was reported as being something like 6-8 million
It’s being reported as well that some players wages will reduce due to our relegation and you have to think that least some of the bigger earners might leave because they won’t want to play in League 1 - although most of the bigger earners still under contract will do well to find a club willing to pay them the same as we are after the way they played last season.
I know some have been critical of Ralls and his recent injury record but I always felt that he was doing a decent job when he was on the park and never saw any evidence that his legs had gone ( I accept others may disagree), I would be happy to see him stay, also Rino who always put a decent shift in, wherever he played. If most of the squad is retained then with a decent keeper, central defender and perhaps another striker, I don’t think we’ll do too bad in Div 1.
As the retained had to be submitted to the EFL some weeks ago the club must have already known about Rambo leaving even while all the speculation about him taking up a more senior role was going on.
Or did I miss something
Lots of people saying that this leaves us with a squad good enough to succeed in League One, but I'm not sure we'll have all of them in place when the season starts. There's nothing to stop the club selling or loaning out anyone on that retained list especially if they need to replace the likes of Goutas for example.
Ramsey was out of contract. They could have been negotiating about a possible renewal at the time the list was submitted, same as Ralls and Rhino, but since then it has been decided he is leaving.
Or they could have known that they weren't going to give him a playing contract but could have been talking to him about the manager's job.
Conte's a good prospect IMHO. I thought they would let him go.
Hope the academy lads released can find new clubs.
I wonder if we renegotiated Hovarth’s contract to a “pay per attempted save” basis?
Inerestingly, WoL are reporting that AR decided not to trigger the extension.
'The 34-year-old had an option to trigger a year extension on his deal with the Bluebirds, but although there were weeks of negotiation, he decided not to exercise the option.'
I thought that it was always the club who had the right to trigger an extension, unless the player played in x number of games in a season.
