Daland is 25. If he comes good, I will be amazed. He's so far off the level required.

    That's a bit if a rant/spit.

You haven't really addressed what has been said.

But you are quite correct in saying that Simic and Daland have not (yet) been successful signings. (I doubt Simic ever will be). I'm not sure Luton fans would say anything different about McGuinness.

Overall the signings of the 5 will have seen an uplift in value. Salech may sell for more than the whole lot cost together. Robertson and Fish at Ł1m each were good signings. It was the performance of senior players that led to our relegation last season not the 21 year olds.

Daland is an interesting one, clearly has some quality. I think BBM will like his ball playing ability. He has a fundamental flaw as to strength in contact/challenge. If that could be corrected (big if) he could be a very good player alongside a traditional 5. I think that a Jupiler Pro 1 or Eredivisie team would still take him at Ł1m+ if we looked to sell. He's proven himself at that level.

Simply put, the signings we made in the summer and January windows last season have to be seen as failures collectively - the league table tells you that and the stories we got agt the beginning of February with the recruitment team patting themselves on the back for how well they'd done. were proved to be completely misplaced.

I watched my first League One predictions podcast yesterday and we were down to finish seventh in what the person presenting the show said was going to be the strongest competition seen at this level in some time. The presenter admitted himself that it was too early to make serious selections yet, but I was still a little disappointed to hear him saying we'd miss out on the Play Offs, but then I thought again and i must say that, looking at the players that reported back for training yesterday, seventh is flattering us.

With all of this news of takeovers floating about,, it's hard to know how ambitious we're going to be in the transfer market, but, whatever sort of budget we're working to, the recruitment team and transfer committee have to be more street wise and realisitc than they were a year ago if we're to be promotion challengers.

I think it will be a strong league one this coming season

Luton still have parachute money, which is a massive advantage in a league where most clubs spend net about 1m a season at the very most.
Us and Plymouth should be expected to be strong, likewise the clubs who lost in the playoffs.
And you can also throw in Bolton and Reading into the mix who I think should be stronger than they were last season.

So already that's 8 clubs in the mix.

The bloke doing the podcast had Luton and Huddersfield going up automatically - apparently, the latter have been splashing the cash this summer.

Most of those podcasters are hopeless; the bookies have us as second favourites.

And in reality. None of our younger players have proven themselves capable of consistent Championship level performances, our older players appear to have declined culminating in relegation. Therefore value decreases.

Not only that but we also can't hold out as long when negotiating as players want to jump back up, both Luton and Plymouth are already losing their starting striker, do you really think Plymouth would have taken 700k for Hardie this time last year?

Hardie only went for 700k because there was a clause in his contract

There is hope that young players coming back will be better than senior players who featured prominently last season. Im thinking J Colwill , Lawlor , King and Isaak Davies can hopefully stay fit.

Maybe a couple of others as well Troy Perret is apparently very highly rated.

I hope we can clear out some senior pros who let us down badly last season.

He has a fundamental flaw where he can't defend, he doesn't know where he's supposed to be, he's slow in thought and in action.

Joel Colwill couldn't get a sniff at Exeter and King was a squad player at Stevenage. We need to be realistic with them.

opta stats has the Croatian league very slightly stronger on average with Dinamo Zagreb a bit of an outlier in Croatia.

Osijek the team Simic is linked with are somewhere between Leyton Orient and Wycombe Wanderers according to Opta.

it's very close to League one standard, they have the championship as significantly stronger.
we are the lowest ranked championship side abd are ranked above all but 2 league one teams and all but 3 HNL sides, so there's almost no overlap.

of course these kind of stats could be pretty unreliable, as comparing different leagues is difficult.

That first game against the Jacks, he looked really useful, and then looked like a parks player after that, it’s a strange one, but the very least you should expect from a centre half is for him to able to stand his ground and not get knocked over by a strong wind, never mind an incoming centre forward looking to win the ball in the air

I agree. It's a big ask. But the hope is he will be better than the likes of Chambers.

He played 40 games last season including 18 for Exeter.

Simic like Tsunoda crazy signings. Any money we can retrieve will be a huge bonus.

You think? Come on, Osijek have beaten PSV over 2 legs in fairly recent history

Dinamo Zagreb didn't even win it, and Hajduk came third.

He only started 9 league games for Exeter, you'd hope he could be better but lets not get carried away

So a release clause like I mentioned as one of the options in my original comment?
